Speaker upgrade - Finally!

Found the culprit for the horrid sound. It's the 2 speakers behind the seats. They are a massive 4.5". I bought the spare tire JBL sub and it fits inside that space perfectly. Left the two little 4 and a halfs disconnected. And just like that, I have a respectable sound system.
It isn't going to win audio championships, but for $300 the whole system is sounds much better.

In the rear where the traditional spare would go. Had to trim a little foam but it was easy. See the top

That's kinda the same experience I had with my Q60.....

It has a Blose 9 speaker setup, but I put subs in the back and removed the 2 rear speakers in the rear deck to allow the subs to breathe through the rear deck, and the SQ went way up. Even if I turn off the subs, the remaining front speakers sound way better.

I got the sport (so no Bose) but yeah. The rear 4 1/2's were so awful it destroyed the whole thing. Even the front's sound better now in conjunction with this guy. I left the door and dash stock.

It's interesting that your foam looks different from mine. I wonder if they changed it at some point. I might have to try out this module and disconnecting the rear 2 speakers. Though we'll see. I'm planning something custom...

Could it be Sport vs Performance vs Proto?

Maybe. Mine is a Performance (I feel like the Proto would at least be exactly like the Performance in this regard). But I think the Sport would not have a Bose module at all. I could be wrong tho.

I’m not much of an audio tech guy so I probably have some dumb questions. Were you able to wire this into the existing wiring, is any amplifier needed for this setup?

Amp is built in the sub.

Did you upgrade speakers too? I want a bit more boom that’s clean with no rattling.

I do have the BOSE but wondering what the difference is

No, I didn't update the factory speakers. And non-bose system.
