I love my 24 Z. But the way the exhaust sounds on this car seems to be one of the very few flaws I have in this car. Awe track exhaust made sound little better but still not the best. I do plan on adding ldp to it in the future but every video I see with every ldp and catback combo I still hear the vacuum engine noise. Can’t help but notice that stock Supra sounds better than full aftermarket exhaust on the z. Anyone have a specific exhaust work done to make it sound good? Chasing after deep toned throughout the rpms with the less engine “breathing” noise as possible.

The sound you're probably looking for would involve a full TurboBack Exhaust, bigger turbos, and probably a Boosted6 Autowerks CAI system. Sadly, there's not much else that'll get rid of the 'vacuum engine noise'.:lying:

Tomie TI sounds amazing - Deep and loud even without LDP.

The tomei didn’t sound bad but could still hear bit of the engine noise. Is there a difference between the type r and type d in terms of exhaust note?

Are you referring to the 9AT muffler?

It's transmission-dependent, not trim.

The Nismo track exhaust sounds really good even without ldps. Not too loud not too quiet. Just right. I will eventually get either LDPs with high flow cats or resonated, not sure which yet.

Do resonators, whether on the downpipes, exhaust pipes, or both, reduce some of the hiss? They're said to reduce volume, maybe the raspiness?. When it comes to the VR30 specifically (or any v6 turbo?...idk) what impact do they have on sound quality in general?

I have the Z Sport Auto. I took this photo of my exhaust. Appears to be the Nismo pipes.

That's not "Nismo", it's the automatic transmission muffler. All autos come with that one and all manuals come with the large one, regardless of year or trim. It's due to sound testing requirements.

Tenneco makes OEM mufflers; Borla makes the aftermarket Nismo systems (not the same as Nismo trim).

Well according to my spec sheet, it is the "sport muffler' and described as such on the Nismo sheet as well. So I am confused as why they would call it the same thing on the spec (sticker sheet and brochure sheet. In any event still sounds good.

Correct, the automatic transmission muffler is called the sport muffler by Nissan. My hunch is they meant for it to go on all Z's at first until it wouldn't pass 50-state noise testing requirements. It is a direct bolt-on for the manual transmission cars for the owners that want more volume without larger diameter piping or an aftermarket system.

Tenneco also makes the Corvette, any many other, mufflers. They're a very large tier 1 OE supplier.
