There seems to be a fair number of Z owners who have installed Stillen TruControl. I thought that it may be interesting to share experiences, learnings, settings, etc. and hopefully we can all benefit.

I'll start. I installed mine a couple of weeks ago. Aside from a rocky first drive (which was well explained by Will) it has been a blast. I have l left my map choices at 3, 5 and 6 (most of the time it has been in Sport/5 setting). All of my driving has been on 93 octane but that is about to come to an end since I can only find 91 locally. I am expecting a noticeable performance drop when I next fill up. Perhaps someone can comment on that.

I don't really know what the effect has been on my mileage because, well, my foot seems to be heavier for some reason which in turn makes mileage suffer.

Oil Temps, etc. appear to be relatively the same. Probably my imagination but shifting seems to be a bit more aggressive.

All in all, probably one of my best purchases for my Z.

I cannot brag about this upgrade enough. The difference is very noticeable. On map 7 you better damn well have a clear road to the sides and ahead because this Z can get very loose with the back wheels even when "getting on it" at 60mph plus, it will break loose on map 7 if you are still on the Potenzas. Ask me how I know. It's incredible. I drive around on map 4 99% of the time, it gives the car a noticeable performance increase without being as aggressive as 7.

The car is like another vehicle on launch control and paddle shifting if you have the automatic like me. I don't know how else to describe it. I too have watched my guages, seems to me that water temp runs about 10 degree hotter when driving aggressively but all others are the same.

Did I mention this is a great upgrade?

How much of a boost increase are you guys seeing on the gauge on the highest of maps (6 or 7)?

We can estimate the hp gains with this number.

It’s hard to keep my eye on the boost gauge for long but in 7. I saw boost at 19 a couple times when I was getting on it. I dont have the room to stretch her legs for very long. I have the Sport 6 M/T with the open diff and it will definitely break loose in the higher gears and RPMs. For now it has more power than I have skills. I am diligently working on gaining experience!!

I went on an 800 mi trip last week and used Eco2, I didn’t notice any gain or loss in power from stock. I got 29-30 mpg when I was driving, my wife got less due to excessive weight in her right foot. In the end it was 28.6 for the trip with cruise set to 88 mph in the flat stretches.

There were 6% grade up and down passes along with the long flat desert stretches. I didn’t notice any issues as far as water and oil running hot etc…on the gauges. Ambient temp for the trip was mid 80’s. The milage at 88mph was very surprising.

Does TruControl use the cruise control buttons to change maps or does it via phone app? I would really like to use the D-Mode switch and see the maps on the sport cluster.

I'm jealous. If you want an idea what 93 does for you, check out the video on YouTube where they ran off the Nismo against a Supra and a Mach 1. The first time on 91 and the second on 93.
I've seen that video it's crazy! Yeah it's $4.50 a gallon but worth every penny. The only time this one has been on 91 was the first tank of gas supplied by the dealer.

We can only get 91 here in Western Colorado. I was able to get 93 when I brought it home from NJ. Honestly I didn’t notice much difference but honestly I wasn’t paying attention!! LOL

I can only get 91 as well but I live close to the border with Maine where 93 is available and it is very noticeable. It has to be straight 93 ( not diluted with 91) but when it is, well there is a reason that I will travel 60 miles to get a tank full.:D

I’m tempted to grab this on sale plus 10% discount and install in the spring. I put PS4Ss on a couple months ago, so now I have a proper set of tires to consider the Stillen Trucontrol.

As far as using the app, is it something that you have to do before you start each trip or pull off to the side of the road because there’s just no way to safely Change settings on the fly while you’re driving? How does it interact with the D-mode Sport mode button? Like if I started my trip in Tru control Eco mode and then at some point on the highway, I hit the Z’s D-mode to go into Sport mode, would that just put me in the OEM “normal“ Sport mode?
