Since my dealer charged me 230$ to disable the ASE, I will do it myself

Just finished disabling my ASE/ASC also.

First, thanks to the OP for this thread, @bpeckham's thread, and @Mr. Mac's thread and the many posters who contributed.
Second, this is not cheaper than paying your local stealership but I'd rather invest in my own tools/experience than throw away money with a dealership that doesn't value a good customer relationship.
Third, modify at your own risk. Few high-level steps are below but not comprehensive. You can brick your ECU. Be careful.

You'll need:
  • One day subscription to Consult III (link)
  • J2534 compliant device. I purchased Topdon Rlink J2534 based on rec on the Consult III page
  • Windows laptop w/ .Net 3.5 installed
    • Net 3.5 is old and not installed by default. Windows 11 laptop kept timing out trying to install. I had to follow the steps here.
Steps:
  1. After connecting to the OBD-II port, load up Consult. You'll be prompted for market type. Select USA/Canada aftermarket and enter your techinfo login. Do not select 'offline menu' - Consult will not allow you to make config/programming changes in offline mode (ref).
  2. Use 'Select VI/MI' to connect Consult to your J2534
  3. Select either of the Diagnosis options then select Audio Amp
  4. You'll need to change the CWG setting from 'Restricted' to 'Open' before Consult will allow you to edit the ASC/ANC settings.
  5. Edit the settings and enjoy!
Full Consult III Operations Manual is here but I didn't find it very helpful.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. I found the pricing for the one-day subscription.

EDIT: A previous post had shown $35 for a one day subscription. The correct price is $55:

I would not have even guessed you could do that. I was expecting > $1000 to DIY, so I gave up.

I was always a bit curious to play around with these two settings (four combos) to see which I liked most. For a few hundred dollars, and building on your research, it seems easy.

Is this the RLINK you purchased?

I paid $55 for the one-day Consult + R2R, looks like you found a less expensive option that excludes R2R (whatever that is), nice work.

Yes that’s the RLINK I purchased. There may be other less expensive options, YMMV.

I might have to look into this! I have been to two stealerships on this; the first stated 250 just to hook up the computer, second wanted 150 and appointment.

print a hard copy of the screen shot posted and talk to the manager or director. tell them u just need a tech to connect and change a value from yes to no. <10min. ask when they have light day to come back at a better time.

My car’s been at the dealership for the past two weeks already trying to get a new radio because of wireless CarPlay lag and well the the ASE being disabled, from what I understand they disabled it but I remember seeing their prices for service and the usual 230$ is for “electronic” maintenance, etc. Just kind of curious to see if Nissan will cover everything either way.

$55 for one-day is the correct price. The $35 was for one day of document access.

I was able to set this up, get connected and change settings. Unfortunately, I re-enabled both ANC and ASE, took her out for a spin, and yes...big difference. The car sounds growly. But then some folks stopped by, and I ran out of time to try the other settings. I'll have to spring for another day to fix it.

Thinking ... after a few beers.
If we all contacted Nissan customer support to turn off ASE, MAYBE they would tell the dealerships (stealerships) to turn the feature off per customer request for no fee. OR they could make it accessible via a software update to allow access to that on the menu.
Either way, I really don't care.
I have learned enough from this post and the continuing contributions to do it myself.
I appreciate all of you for sharing the knowledge with the community!

This thread has some info.

It's these items from the brochure:

1000058752.webp

ANC is Active Noise Cancelation. As far as I can tell this does nothing, but I don't have the best hearing.

ASE (also called ASC) is Active Sound Enhancement - fake engine/exhaust sounds.

Both features of the Performance and NISMO models. Not on the Sport model.

(delete duplicate post) - @Administrator not sure what happened there. Got an error message that said I had to wait three seconds, and then duplicate post appeared.

Is the tiny speaker under the steering wheel column for ANC or ASE? Or do both of these systems use the Bose audio system?
