Curious, has anyone here with the 9spd auto swapped to the 6spd manual? If so what did that entail? Other than the trans itself, what else? The TCU? The interior shifter panel thing?>

no idea. But the ECU and dashboard display will need to be reprogrammed or swapped out and maybe the associated wire harnesses. Im guessing it would be cheaper to trade the car for a m/t. Plus the value of the car would drop like a rock.

It definitely will not be cheaper to trade at this point. A new 6spd costs ~$2500 alone, so the labor plus other parts needed will probably be another $2500. If it was cheaper to trade I wouldn't be considering a swap. The auto trans is just ugh. Other than the track it's abysmal. Also not being able to put the car in neutral while keeping the door open is retarded. Can't coast to a red light on neutral. I tried to put the car in neutral while the car was in motion about 5mph (decelerating) and the car jerked forward as if I hit the brake and heard a loud bang. Should not do that. I've put cars in neutral while in motion in the past and never had an issue.

I'm not sure what is happening with your car coasting in neutral but mine has no issues with that, I coast into the automatic car wash every few days in neutral until I hit the belt. I did have to get used to it but just a firm bump forward without pushing the button hits neutral perfectly while moving, no issues.

I don't understand. You go into neutral without using the shifter? Which button? I'm confused. Also, firm bump is not something I'm used to when going from drive to neutral, it's supposed to feel like a release from torque. I think the electronic shifting apparatus is over-engineered.

I understand a small lurch forward going from D to N but a bump? Nah man just nah.

Even with a lien on the car? I still owe more than the car is worth...

There is just more involved than the trans. Like above said the digital dash and isn't the diff different? Also sensors ect. . And back to the lien part. I think I swapped car wouldn't be worth anything when you went to resell.

I mean it's up to you for sure but I think all things considered you find a used one with the 6mt maybe and take the hit on yours and try to make out best you can. That swap would be a nightmare. I would probably only do it if it was like a build car or a project car.

Yes, I use the shifter, I just don't push the button on the side of it. When you are in drive, just push the shifter forward, a nice firm bump and it goes right into neutral and will coast as long as you like, or as long as your forward motion will take you. If you push the button and bump forward it tends to want to go into reverse. No button, right into neutral smoothly and a nice coasting motion like you desire.

I don't think I'm selling this car unless life forces me to. The dash/cluster is a simple rom flash somewhere inside the car's computer system. I've seen a nismo cluster on a performance (zillafullboost on yt) so that part is easy. The sensors and everything else yeah won't be simple but is doable, certainly cheaper than putting all the stock parts back into my Z, selling my Z, buying a new/used manual Z, then reinstalling all those parts into the new/used Z. Better to just do the swap. If I had just bought the car didn't do anything to it and changed my mind then yeah totally do the trade.

Gear ratio is different for auto so look at replacing the diff too. You are also assuming nothing will go wrong messing with the wiring harness? Good luck.

Sadly I’ve been in similar situations like you. Purchased a car off the lot instead of getting it built the way I wanted too inpatient. After a while started to dislike it so I traded it and took my lumps. I learned a valuable lesson get what you want don’t skimp on options, because of price. Lastly trying to swap out transmissions will be a nightmare and you might end up with an un drivable vehicle and lose even more money when you have to dump it.
