My Z Sport automatic, when at cruise, sometimes only goes to 9th at about 70 mph. But other times it will go into 9th at 50. What's up?

*** Also - Just seen my first Z in my area. Went by fast but I think it was a Nizmo, Gunmetal grey. You reading this??

I've only seen my Z go into 9th gear while being on the highway over 70 mph. It's just a fuel economy thing. It's the one gear that's really not needed on this car, just my opinion.

My Performance auto likes 9th gear somewhere around 70 & above. Seems to stay in 8th when only doing 65-ish.

Most auto transmissions these days are programmed to upshift as quickly as possible for optimum MPG. The logic will adjust to your driving style & present conditions as well, so results do vary.

Throttle attenuation is the key to using the 9AT

Being I'm looking far down the road when I do it and not at the gage cluster pretty sure it's still in 5th at 135mph+ with 6th being the last gear for a top end pull

With the 6MT ... correct?
The 9AT does odd things, sport mode is completely different in shift points and doing a run.
~65-70 mph in 'drive' mode puts it into 9th.
Like you said, I don't look down when letting it free ...
This car is fun af

It’s a mystery to me. I know Sport mode plays a role, but after 22,000 miles I still can’t figure out why it’ll shift into 9th at 45 then won’t shift into 9th in a day of driving 60-70 on highways. I think the tranny is like most, has a number of cycles that it holds onto in memory to adjust to the user, but there are other maps that seem based on variables as recent as the last few minutes or even one series of pedal operations. It’s a mystery though.

I have the auto. Those pulls are done in sport manual mode.

I did a couple of pulls, first was sport mode, no TC and launch mode (have link to video if you'd like).
Second run, sport mode, launch control, TC and with the stock 007s. I replaced the stock with Continental Control Contact Sport SRS+ and haven't made a run with them yet, but I can feel the stability is much better on daily driving.
Second run

OK Guys. Went to town this AM and it went into 9th at 47mph at just over 1000rpm. A Mystery.
