I have a 26 Heritage Edition Z. The manuals for the VR30 say the engine oil capacity with oil filter change is 5.3 liters. I installed a new Z1 aluminum oil pan which is supposed to increase the capacity by about 200ml. When I checked the dip stick after adding 5.5L and doing a short drive... what I think I could see as the oil level on the dipstick did not seem to be at or near the high mark. What do you think is the best practice for checking oil level after an oil change and periodically? I feel like I'm tripping/not doing something right for ideal oil level readings. Also, I know the VR30 in AWD applications has a higher oil capacity. Did they achieve that with a larger/deeper oil pan?

You're getting a more complete drain now, plus the extra capacity. Plan for 6½ qts.

I didn’t know how the residual oil from the original pan would be factored into the capacity listed in the manual. There was definitely quite a bit left in the plastic pan after removal even though I had the car jacked from the driver side.

0.8 qts is the incomplete drain from the stock plastic pan, plus 0.2 qt increased capacity from the Z1 pan, so you're at a full quart more than a stock oil change.

Awesome. That is in line with what I was experiencing then. Thank you for the information!

I had the same question after installing the Z1 oil pan , The stock plastic oil pan has a 6.1L capacity but the manual states 5.3L if you will change your oil , because of the plastic oil pan drain plug location that is higher than usual allowing only 5.3 liters to drain leaving 0.8 liters in the pan , If you will change your oil after the z1 oil pan install add 6.1L as a start let the engine idle for a little , then wait 15 minutes and check the dipstick on a level surface and add oil accordingly mine takes 6.1L and if i jack up the driver side more than the passenger side allowing the oil to fully drain the car takes 6.3L

That tracks. I also raise from the driver side. After I took the old oil pan off there was still a good 100ml or so left in it. Didn’t measure it, just guessed. Next oil change I’ll measure the “lay flat” residual with the old pan.

I would like to add that the manual states this:
1771981331896-qa.webp

Doing anything else than what the manual says for this is just negligent.

So yea, wait 15 minutes over.

Well, that has me thinking I may want one. I didn't care about the plastic, but an incomplete drain bugs me.

Same; exact reason I bought my Dorman (and also curiosity if it will help dissipate heat to keep the oil temps more stable).

Is the Dorman the same height vs OEM?

From what I have read, the Z1 and CZP is taller than oem

0.2 qt increased capacity, but same physical dimensions as the stock plastic pan to fit with any aftermarket under panel.
