Being new to the RZ34 I'm not familiar with the jump issues (or what that even means! :cwl:) could you share some light on the problem and what other problems it might cause down the line?

Good afternoon,

Absolutely! This is an issue that we are (unfortunately) VERY familiar with as it has carried over from the Q50/Q60 now on to the new Z. Belt slippage and shredding is nothing new to the VR30 platform, due to a misalignment from factory. This is one of those things that we joke here at the shop is a 'when' rather than an 'if' failure point for these motors. We see this regularly enough here on our dyno, that we have a tally going as to how many days we can go without a belt shredding šŸ˜… What happens is once the belt begins to slip off the oem pulley, it will fray and then ultimately shred. At this point you are at risk of whatever the belt decides to take as collateral on its way out. This can include your oem pulleys ( we have seen these shred and heat to the point of melting to the OEM pulleys and/ or tensioner), your alternator, water pump, ac compressor, etc. Sometimes it doesn't damage anything on the way out, other times some people do not get as lucky. Honestly, having this happen on the dyno is somewhat of a best case scenario for this to fail- the last thing we would want is for this to happen on the street while driving.

There is a seemingly endless wormhole of horror stories you can dig through and work yourself up over. But honestly, just peek in on your belt from time to time and check for small cracks or frays. Unless you start noticing these things, I wouldn't immediately panic over it. Though, taking preventative steps to stop it from becoming a possibility is never a bad thing!

Hi Racebox - do you guys have an installation video for this should one buy and want to install on their own? Thanks.

Great timing!
We actually just super recently filmed an install video for the pulleys. Our media man is currently working on editing the video, so we should hopefully have this uploaded to YouTube soon! I will link it here as soon as we have it uploaded ☺

Hold on man, I had a hell of a time (old man talk for incredible blast of a time) working with R/T tuning on my Q60 RS and now SOHO these past few years on my Z and literally never has any tech. or sales engineer mentioned anything about belt slipping and my Q60 was one of a steady fleet of PNE constantly being driven or shipped to R/T. I was at just shy of 600 AWHP and relentlessly logged, never did I or anyone see anything indicating slip.

I know y’all are badass and one of very few actually pioneering the next evolution of the VR platform, incredible respect for y’all but would you say the way you’re describing it may be a little polarizing? Or maybe frame it such that yeah, if you’re on the fence between basic tune and bolt-ons, the pulleys/driveshaft/engine diaper can wait?

The fact that they even ship without a gates belt OOTB seems silly if indeed this were a prevalent issue no?

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! ☺
Sorry to hear you've had a hard time with your Z! Hope it's all sorted and you're enjoying it! R/T and SOHO are both great shops.

As far as the belt slippage/pulley issue - it's a lot less prevalent on the Zs because Nissan came out with a new pulley when they released the Z - it has a lip on the edges to prevent the belt slipping off as easily, but we have still seen it on Zs, although at a much, much less frequent rate.

On the Qs there are cars that were going through belts every few thousand miles. The revised pulley helps, but we developed our solution as a more comprehensive fix.

I would say that for the Zs, you're probably alright to address this after you've done other mods if you choose.

Also, my apologies for copy pasting our post from the Q50 groups. I should have taken a second to revise it

Nah by ā€œhell of a timeā€ I meant an absolute blast : ) I too could have been a bit more clear. As stated though, props to you, I’m the guy that called y’all about 1 year ago inquiring about pivoting to you for e-tune takeover from SOHO given we are in KY now vs. the car posted in Charlotte. I love Nick and the crew at SOHO and Erik and his folks at R/T. Only reason I haven’t circled back with you is because I don’t think I can keep the Z if I continue to pine over a backdraft coyote cobra kit car ; ) so I don’t want to make big changes hehe. Come a years time if I’m over the kit car I’ll likely touch base, bar none seems y’all have the model dialed and locked down for those g2g with pure remote!

Hussein is wizard. I hang out like a 4 y/o every time I’m there : )
Not to get too far off topic, but how is your experience with SOHO? I moved to Greenville, SC recently and am looking for a new shop. There's one near me that specializes in Z/G but they don't seem to be well known and might be new.
