My coworker has already put a deposit down and signed a pre-order contract for the new GR. I haven't seen it, but he says he has MSRP guaranteed with the selling price TBD.

One thing's for certain, Toyota's info dump on this reveal blows the Z's into the weeds by comparison. Of course they have a lot more tech here to talk about...
No freaking kidding.

Think Its a cop out to say they can’t pump the out quickly, those poor sales figures are precisely the reason why they should be pumping them out, especially when people are waiting to buy them.
Also think its a cop out about details, no one still really knows a hundred percent what we will get in the AU model. Last specs that came out still said, overseas model shown local could be different….no Weight release from Nissan, no driving stats, no price, no date …two to .three months out from when delivery is supposed to hit
If Nissan wants to truly save their brand, they need to start looking at how they communicate with prospective buyers. If Toyota can do it, no reason as to why they can not, particularly when it looks like they are communicating with the Japanese market
I agree. Any other corporate strategy to pivot and correct course would be simple: Let's pump out some cars and ink some contracts. And when that's done, introduce even better financing 6 months later and sell another swack of Zs. Geeze. It's not that hard.

Ok I'm late to the game on this one. How does this thing have 300HP (did I read that correctly?) and the Z can barely tweak out 400HP from a 3.0L??? And the senior leadership of Toyota is talking production run numbers for the balance of the year and beyond. What da hell. Nissan. Wake TF UP.

The Toyota wizards somehow got that little guy to safely run 22 lbs of boost from the factory.

Will that matter when the new Z puts bus lengths on the Corolla GR-FOUR?

As much as I like the Corolla, I don't think it'll be nearly as quick as a Z, Golf R or CTR.

It won't but for some reason the hype of this car got certain people thinking it can fly into outer space.

This part of the R&T article probably has something to do with it. I'm as hyped as anyone for this car but still have realistic expectations for it. I really just want it as a daily since most of my commute is back roads and to take on vacation. If I'm really looking for trouble any given day I'll just drive something else.

Complete speculation on my part: A well built engine with a couple racecar tricks, lots of linear boost, direct and port injection, and I'm betting a factory tune as close to safety thresholds as Toyota's legal dept will allow. While I'm sure there's room to grow, I have a sneaky feeling we're going to see some blown engines before people figure these little guys out.

The Z & the VR30DDTT on the other hand, within a week people will be tuning them to make 500whp. The platform has lots of legroom.

Exactly!!

Reminds me of the story my father told me about my grandfather (Old School Cattle Ranchers in Northern Mexico - Sonora) and how the ranch hands would stand around the fire on cold nights and brag about the amazing things they could do. And in fact, they weren't embellishing, dudes were legit and could do Exactly what they were bragging about. One night the fire is dying down and they look down and see my grandfather, casually stirring the fire (as one tends to do as the fire dies down), with his unit!! The point my father was making is yeah, you can be legit and because you can back it up you might make some noise, BUT . . . It's the quiet, calmest guy in the room who screams the loudest without saying a damn word.

Don't get me worng, the GR seems pretty alright and as my oldest daughter hits driving age I might pick one up for her. But Daddy is going to be rollin that Z, as he should be . . . "God's In His Heaven " All's Right With The World"

I spoke too soon. HKS had a GR Yaris (same G16E-GTS engine) pushing 475 over a year ago on stock internals. Granted, this is with a bigger turbo, running a 100 shot of nitrous and running motec in place of the factory ECU, but the engine seems plenty capable.

I still think Toyota tuned this little bitch to the edge of what's acceptable for public consumption, but the more I read, the more I see an overengineered engine with a lot of potential. She very well could give the VR30DDTT a run for its money.

Tofu deliveries are about to be interesting again.

Completely agree. Lots of legroom to tune. I just wish Nissan would have come out with a 500HP monster (like it did with the Z32 with 300HP...unheard of at the time really) and put that HP under warranty!
