sport trim brake squeal after heavy braking

hello, whenever i go on a spirited drive with heavy braking, i start to get some squeal noise from the rear brake(s) when i lightly press the brake pedal, what could be causing this? stock pads still have a lot of life left on them, nissan didn't notice anything off with the brakes/pads, they also greased them when i went in for an oil change about a month ago. when i drive in town just to work etc, the brakes sound completely normal, this only happens after heavy braking, and after about 10-15min of no heavy braking, the noise goes away. it also only happens when i'm light on the brake pedal, if i apply more pressure to the pedal the noise goes away. more info: bought the car used with only 6k miles, 2025 sport trim.

No issues with my Sport. I was very careful with the brakes during break-in, though, to make sure to bed them in.

thanks for the reply, i know this isn't "normal", i just dont know if the previous owner bedded them correctly, just trying to see if anyone has any info on what this could be. this is my first post on here so did i post it in the wrong channel?

I have a Sport and my brakes squeal after a track day. It only happens when the pads have warmed up. No noise when cold. I just ignore the noise until Im ready to replace the pads and rotors.

Could be anything from glazed pads and rotors, brake dust build up, etc.

yeah same here, no noise when cold at all/just driving around town etc, then after a bit of "heavy" driving in the mountains, light brake pedal will make that squeal in the video i posted, but if i press the brake pedal a bit more no noise at all. just a bit jarring to hear because i never experienced it in my GR86 and used to push that car even harder

@jrz34 the Sport is the base model of the 3 trims available for the Z. The rotors and pads are of cheaper quality.

any plans to upgrade your pads to non-oem ones whenever you're ready to? or will you be sticking with oem. just wondering what would be a good non-oem option for daily/street/harder driving

Im going to upgrade to either Performance or Nismo calipers. When that happens, I'll look into the pads and rotors

I’m in the flatlands surrounding the Houston area so I’m pretty easy on the brakes. About the only time I do any “heavy” braking is when one of the crazy drivers around here pulls out in front of me.

Happens with my sport too. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one. I’ll deal with it until I get the sway bars taken care of. The Nismo or Performance Brakes are the route I’m taking also. No tracking here, shooting the canyons in western Colorado every so often doesn’t require the heavier mods.

Absolutely! I'm thinking that, with a smile on my face, every time I'm behind the wheel. For me the Sport is a helluva great car for the money. Killer looks, too!

For those planning on upgrading to Nismo or Performance brakes: is it as simple as just swapping the calipers and rotors, or are changes to the other brake system components (master cylinder, proportioning valve, sensors and/or other electronics) required?

25 MT sport, my brakes will also squeal from time to time, rare tho.

Dang! definitely good to know it’s not just me haha. So you’re experiencing the same kinda situation, where it’s fine when driving normally in town or wherever, but when you go on spirited drives in the mountains or wherever it’ll start to squeak like the video? But yeah, this thing is a blast. I’m gonna get the stillen front and rear sway bars in a couple months.

Nismo brake master cylinder will need to be installed. Cut or replace the dust shield.
