I find driving in the Austin area considerably worse than Dallas and on par with Houston. Nobody has insurance, but most people that hit you don’t stop to exchange information anyways so it doesn’t really matter. I used to think Georgia had the worst drivers in the country…. Until I moved to Texas. It’s straight survival out here. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. You take your life in your hands every time you pull out of the neighborhood.

Commuting in Dallas was much more MadMax than commuting in Houston. Houston drivers are typically slower and less aggressive; way less road rage.

Yes, that's what I've heard about Houston. About a third of drivers without insurance. I get nervous when some junker pulls up near me. Too many with no insurance and would just wad up any possible citation and toss it out the window as they drive away belching smoke and weaving down the road, hopefully, after not gunning me down.

I have lived in and visited quite a few places all around the US. One thing that is true anywhere you go, everyone thinks where they live has the worst drivers ever.

I could think of worse ways to die than a belly full of Texas BBQ.

I have been to Dallas once on a business trip for a week. Hotel & plant was near the airport. food was unbelievable. Eating at some BBQ buffet for lunch every day and Flintstones steaks at night. I remember ending up at a stop sign on a 6 lane highway. I had to cross 3 lanes to make a turn - glad i was in a rental.

Ha! I’m setting in downtown Brenham at the moment. A wonderful little town, set in some pretty countryside. It’s an alternate universe from Houston.

Speaking of Texas BBQ, I’m stuffing myself on some mighty fine BBQ brisket chili right now. I’ll die happy. ;)

Arrggghhh! From the article.

“So the trucker loads all of the SUVs on, and the last vehicle to go on [was] this Z. Now his truck is parked at one end of the lot, while the Z is at the other end … just under a quarter mile, maybe. He gets in it, pulls it out, and decides to just gun it down the road alongside the pier, reaching speeds of probably 60-70 mph. The car then hits one of the first big bumps, and that’s when he lost traction and hydroplaned towards a pile of new Nissans that were awaiting pickup. He attempted to avoid it, but couldn’t bring the rear back in. He managed to clip four brand new Nissan Rogues, and then spun into a parked Lowboy modular trailer parked against a wall on the other side of the road.”

Lunatic drivers everywhere. Break out the whip for the trucker!
