All in all it's a glitch and should not be happening. I won't even use S mode because of it. There needs to be an update
It's not a glitch, that's just how it works. All three of my 370's did it, and my 2024 Z does it. An increase of 500-700 RPMs every once in a while isn't going to hurt fuel economy in any meaningful way, nor will add any wear and tear on the car.

What car did you have before?

For the above post no. It revs and then comes back down. If S mode is off, it doesn't do it.

As for wobble I've done that my entire life. When I leave work I'll see if it does it without wobble. Pretty sure it does. I also just read something about emissions. Just want to see if this is normal or not. I feel like it's just burning fuel and wear and tear on the car. Plus it's very annoying.
when you redline and shift the car's computer will keep the throttle open to rev the engine and burn exhaust emissions, same thing is happening here. When going to neutral the car is trying to burn emissions.

If Diesel trucks can blow black smoke all day, this feature should not exist. It's annoying and dumb.

Nothing to do with emissions - this is the rev match feature and can be turned on / off.

an improvement would be to kill the rev match if no gear is selected after 1-2 seconds of shifting into N. At lease the rev hang in N would be short lived.

During the break-in milage the rev match should be limited to 4K.

as long as you can complete a shift in a reasonable amount of time it’s not a problem as-is. The problem arises when shifting into N and leaving it there.
