Has anyone had any success refinishing performance rims? Mobile tire people damaged my rims and there is a bunch of curb damage. They want to make it right by getting it refinished. However, I am a bit skeptical that it will look decent enough.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

I had to get 2 of mine repaired due to damage from the truck while in transit; they now look perfect. My damage looked way worse than yours.

I'd highly suggest cleaning your wheels before a repair is performed, no different than having a clean car for paintless dent repair. Give them a clean slate to work from.

Here is a video link showing more extent of damage. Let me know your thoughts.

Repairing that would not concern me; a skilled tech can definitely take care of that. Do him a favor and clean the wheel though so he can focus on the actual repair and a perfect paint match.

It seems refinishing the rim would cost around $170. However, in the grand scheme of things, the rims themselves are not that expensive.

Also, they attempted to patch my Michelin PS4 tire, but the patch did not hold. As a result, they swapped on another temporary tire so I could drive, and during that tire change the rim was damaged, which could have been avoided.

I’ll be replacing the PS4 next week, but at this point it may just be easier to order a new rim and see if he is willing to cover it. Ultimately, this was a very simple task that was mishandled.

UGH that's frustrating! Good luck with however you choose to proceed. Hopefully you can get him to be agreeable with your requests.

Find a good motorcycle shop that does powder coating, they will hook you up for less than 200 bucks. Or do a quick Internet search for powder coating near me, you’ll find lots of options. Just read the reviews.

Does anyone know the correct part number for the Performance rear wheel? I originally thought it was D0300-6GP1A ($300ish) which seems too good to be true.

I spoke to someone at a parts department at local dealership and they say its a slightly different part number and costs about ($1000ish) D0C00-6GP9D.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tire guys are pretty bad apparently. I have a set of inexpensive Chinese Coats-knockoff tire machines and I am still able to swap tires without any damage. They were in way too much of a hurry.

A lot of refinishing is a quick sand and smooth, sometimes body filler for bad spots, and repaint, often without even removing the tire. Quick and dirty, and short term fix if not done right.

Might be a good time for recoloring via powder coating if you wanted to mix things up a bit. A nice bronze or brighter color really makes these wheels pop. I went with polished aluminum look on mine.

I am going to complete OEM look. The question is the part numbers. If it's $300ish great. If it $1000ish that is going to be a pain to get him to agree.

A 19" Rays Forged wheel is not going to be $300; $1k sounds about correct. You can probably find it online for a hundred or two less.

I believe the $300 wheel you're referencing is the Watanabe style wheel.

I guess I am not understanding the difference because the photo for the cheaper wheel matches with what I have but the more expensive one has no photo. I am sure things get miscatagorized but still.

The photos they're using online appear to be incorrect more often than not. Your VIN is the correct way for the parts counter to match your wheel. OEM Forged wheels are expensive; I wrecked a couple on my C7 Corvette due to a wicked pothole @ 80 MPH and even a decade ago those were $750+ each.

Good news! Convinced the Mobile tire operator to reimburse me for new wheel plus installation. About $1,700. He immediately sent me money via CashApp which was a little sketchy and surprising. But I got the money and have part on order. His only request is he picks up old one when it’s off which is fair.
