So I just installed an aftermarket exhaust on my Nismo Z. Sounds great, and I'm really happy with it. However, I've noticed something odd.

When accelerating through the 2,000 to 3,000 RPM range, where the exhaust is at its loudest, I get a high-frequency buzzing noise that seems to be coming from the passenger side, somewhere around the dash vent/door area. It almost sounds like speaker distortion.

A few things I've noticed:

• Only happens in that specific RPM range.
• Goes away as soon as I'm above or below it.
• Goes away completely if I roll the passenger window down.
• Radio is always off, so it's definitely not the audio system.

My guess is that the exhaust frequency is causing some sort of trim resonance, but before I start taking panels apart, I figured I'd see if anyone else has experienced this.

Has anyone run into something similar after an exhaust install? If so, what ended up being the culprit?

Which exhaust did you install? It could be hitting a brace in the rear.

i installed the MBRP exhaust with everything else stock. It sounds like a high frequency ringing coming for the air vent on the passenger door.

I am completely stock and have this same noise coming from the right side of the vehicle but it sounds like it's the rear speaker next to the parcel shelf. It happens in that same RPM range and for the last two weeks I thought it was my fork/knife vibrating in my lunch kit on my passenger seat.

Did you find anything inside the car that was vibrating? I am wondering if my speaker has something loose inside of it. I notice it in the same RPM range and it must be an engine frequency thing. Over this weekend I will have a passenger and see if they can put pressure on different panels and make the noise go away.

I have AWE both Track and Touring exhaust. Right now I have the Touring Installed because of the odd "rattling" noise that seems to come from around the area behind the passenger seat. Odd sound and it's been awhile since the Track was installed so it's hard for me to describe exactly what it sounds like. I have a seat back organizer on the passenger seat and thought whatever was in there was causing the noise. Nope. I really never figured it out except that like above it would happen in a certain RPM range. Never tried rolling the window down (Florida Summer) No idea to this day exactly what it was. Having said that I would really like to get my Track exhaust back on the car.

I have the AWE Track Exhaust and I have it too. It's very annoying and definitely on the inside of the car from behind the passenger seat somewhere. In my case, I assume something isn't right from an amp and spare tire sub install that required the removal of interior panels. I told my wife I'm putting her in the hatch and driving her around until she pinpoints the source of the sound, hahah.

Harmonic vibration, let us know if you track it down. Mine has a buzz in the instrument cowel area at certain RPMs thanks to LDPs and my Invidia N1 exhaust.

Here is what I found today. Drove around with a passenger for 3 hours and the noise is gone. Completely gone. Turned off the radio and went down some smooth and bumpy roads, tried highway speeds and residential road speeds, kept the RPM around 2,500-3,000 and nothing. I'm thinking it's in the seat belt mechanism because when I drove without a passenger I had the seat all the way forward and still heard the buzzing from the speaker area. Or it has something to do with having some weight on that side of the car to hold the panels from vibrating (?) but I find that hard to believe because it's specifically coming from that speaker/shelf panel.

I'm going to drive around with the seat belt buckled and the seat pulled forward so the belt is extended as if somebody was sitting there and see if it goes away over the next couple days.

I have a harsh vibration/rattle noise from the instrument area. I found if I put my finger inbetween the cover and the dash with a little pressure it makes all the noise go away even on bumpy roads. I'm trying to find a small black plastic piece I can fit in there to keep pressure on it. I've tried a few things but it needs to be a weird shape to keep pressure on it. If i come up with something I will post it here but for your case I suggest lifting slightly on the cover panel and see if your noise goes away.
