Is half this forum in Houston?! We need to host a mega-meet or something...
LOL! I’m all for a mega-meet but can we have it anywhere BUT Houston? :) Brenham is darn nice and has become a reasonably close “staycation” for me. ;)

Interested in this. Red do you even have HX or Intercoolers or under shroud or aluminum oil pan installed? I'm sure it's warming up in Nashville by now right?

Only change was the Z1 undershroud. Stock HX, intercoolers, and pan. The improved flow of the oil cooler vent alone made a a big difference in oil temps. What I've found is that any time it is under 60F (at least with Nashville's weather conditions and humidity), oil temps never reach 170F. Now that it's warmer outside, I get there, but it takes a good 20-30 mins to get fully warmed up. In contrast, coolant is usually fully warmed up in <10 mins. Probably because the coolant has a thermostat and the oil (apparently) does not.

I usually wait till 140F before I get on it. I think that's the minimum for launch control too.

I had read that about the launch control temperature, so 140F was the number I went by for a while, but then I found the “VR30 Bible” that’s been posted everywhere and it said 170F before beating on it. With the water oil we put in this thing, who knows what’s right.

Anybody else experiencing this? Conventional wisdom is that we should let the oil warm up to at least 170° before heavy throttle. However, my oil temps will not reach that point, regardless of driving conditions, city or highway.

Ambient temps have been low, so that’s obviously a contributing factor, but still seems odd the car will NEVER warm up. I coddled the engine prior to the break-in oil change at ~1,500 miles, so I’m not actually sure if this was happening prior to then because I wasn’t really monitoring oil temps as closely. I installed a Z1 under shroud at the same time as the first change. I went with the Z1 because I thought it had the best oil cooler flow vs. other options (and especially over the stock shield). But could the oil cooler now be working TOO well??? It seems silly to blame this on a shroud, but that is the only change point.

I put some examples below, but the TLDR is that I can’t get above ~150-160°. Last night it was pegged at 159° at 44° ambient, but I said screw it and did a couple WOT pulls through 2nd and a little of 3rd and it still only went up a couple of degrees before quickly settling back down to where it was. Is there possibly a thermostat that controls flow to the oil cooler that has failed? Or does the oil always go through it?

Anyone else having trouble getting the oil to warm up?

After about 30 mins on interstate driving, pegged at 154°:

40 miles of 73-78mph interstate driving later, temp down a couple degrees:

A few miles later, after taking an exit ramp and cruising at 60mph, another few degrees lower:

Last night after ~25 mins of city driving, higher ambient temp, still pegged at 159°:

Hi
Exquisite_Red

I believe you have a crazy setup for boosted driving. oil temps that low is a dream here in Houston. But i believe the stock cooler is plenty, I have maxed out at 195F at a 98F day with start stops and floored acceleration runs. I am bone stock at the moment.

But you are below freezing and I think that is absolutely normal.
