Hey guys, sorry if this is a stupid question or already answered somewhere else, but.. What is the oil pressure at idle supposed to be on a stock Z fully warmed up? Mine bounces between 16 - 17 which I always thought was normal, but recently someone told me below 20 is bad and means the engine has a problem.

thoughts?

Those of us with automatics have no idea because we don't even have oil pressure gauges. Unless you have the oil pressure warning light popping on, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Mine always seems kinda low too, def in the lower third of the gauge. I'll get you some numbers next time I drive. Is it too low? I'd guess not since no warning lights are on.

The only thing I know about idle oil pressure on any vehicle is that between 15 and 20 is dead nuts for the for the VQ35DE, which doesn’t matter at all here...but now you know.
Regarding the VR30DETT, sonictuned says: ā€œAt idle, it’s normal to see around 15-20psi.ā€

I read this yesterday and decided maybe I’ll figure this out.

Nope. I have an auto and have a gauge. Can you elaborate on what you’re talking about?

Blog says solenoid stuck open. I wonder what happens if you force it closed, or even just plug the hole, and tell the ECU that it’s functioning correctly. Is there a problem created by keeping it closed?

What I'm talking about is no oil pressure gauge on automatics. Please enlighten me on where your oil pressure gauge is located on the dash, and in what view.

A pic would be fantastic.

('24 NISMO) I'm running whichever gauge option shows the tach in the center. The gauges to the right of the tach, what the manual calls "4 gauges," are:
engine oil temp (TL), trans oil temp (BL), coolant temp (TR) and diff oil temp (BR).

What's odd is the 2024 manual has trans oil pressure as an option, but not temp.

2024 Owner's Manual, p. 2-11
-> Edit: The 2023 and 2025 manuals list the exact info shown below.

I can’t believe I’m ahead of the curve on anything outside work, but this is from the dash being in Sport mode, on a Sport Z. Oil pressure and AT temp. I couldn’t ask for more. I think this Z dash is a home run. I have no suggestions to improve other than another review and adjustment on menu/button redundancy. Nissan is getting really close to integrating all of the screens and menus. They’ve done a great job across the entire lineup, especially the Ariya/Murano-looking interfaces. I expect those are very, very good. I don’t hear a single reviewer, Nissan PR person, or critic talk about at all. I need to start my own real reviews on cars that go into this level of ā€œstuffā€. I already have two jobs though, so…

On performance automatics we have differential oil temp where the turbo oil temp is on yours and turbo oil temp where your oil pressure is.

And no they are not editable.

So today I learned sport autos have oil pressure gauge

Now what about Nismos???

So checked this today. Right after starting the car 35 psi. Max 57 psi accelerating to maybe 5500rpm (no picture, was busy). 17 psi idling at destination and warmed up. Three data points (@Zenogias, @RobotAZ, and me) with around the same values. Maybe no problem?

I checked around last night after posting above and pretty much everything you see says "below 20 at idle is bad." Google AI even said that, specifically about the VR30. BUT that could be because a lot of people online are saying/repeating that, and everyone's taking it as fact.
I checked the user manual and the service manual and didn't see anything about normal oil pressures.

There’s no turbo temp. TM is transmission.

I think the most important thing is that the car will tell you if there is an oil pressure issue.
