Eff Nissan, they have it coming.
Ghosn and his injection of Renault design and cheapness beginning in Y2K, the incredibly bad decision to triple down on the craptastic CVT.....
Redesigning the Gen 2 Titan to steal Ford design cues then not even advertising it (huh, whoops we obviously stole Ford design cues, probably not a good idea to advertise it)
The worst offense, by far, is how Nissan hired ad agencies with activist college grads who hired Brie Larson to make "edgy" ads. Absolutely no advertising that represented traditional Nissan core values, just crap about modern sociopolitical.
Case in point: those of us on here that followed the failed launch of the new Z know the pain of the delays and shortages of the Z.
I had signed up for Z updates, hoping to grab one at initial launch. So, imagine my surprise, I get an email notification from Nissan around the proposed launch date. I'm excited, hoping Nissan has some news for me. I open the email, and my disappointment at the content of that email galvanized me to how out of touch Nissan is. As if the Ghosn and CVT BS wasn't bad enough, this email was the nail in the coffin for Nissan as far as I am concerned.
What was in the email you ask? How about Nissan marketing celebrating gay pride month, and how 2 dudes would enjoy owning a Nissan Rogue. WTF!
Ok, some will call me a bigot. Don't care. All I cared about was the new Z. How out of touch could a car company be? Well, now we know. Ghosn, CVTs and social activism didn't work out, did it? Running a once great company into the ground and hoping "edgy" advertising firms could fill in the gaps didn't work out, did it? Now, Nissan, you are dying. The Japanese arm of Nissan should've reigned in USA Nissan years ago. I highly doubt these ad campaigns existed in Japan.
And, BTW, I have a lot to lose if Nissan goes under. I bought a new Titan last year. Even despite it looking like a F-150, it's a solid machine. But, if Nissan goes under, how am I going to get parts for it? They only sold like 5k a year, and if Nissan dies, what about my warranty? What if I want to keep it for 10 years without support?
We went through this with my wife's Saab 9-2x, but that car was basically a WRX. Only the badges, headlights and front fenders were unique to Saab.
I need to approach buying a Z with caution, Toyota treated me well with my Corolla GR inquiries, no sociopolitical bs, and they are in no danger of going down. My wife agrees that 2025 is an appropriate time to make a discretionary purchase of a sports car. Z, GR Corolla or used 911 have been confirmed as candidates for me finally getting my last big senseless car purchase. And as much as the Z leads, by far, my other choices, with Nissan possibly going under....oof, maybe gotta wait until 2026?
Truly, I hope someone bails out Nissan, but only if they do an about face. They are getting rid of the CVT, finally. I think the new Pathfinder is an excellent choice now. I think the new Rogue now has 9AT too. Ok, we're getting somewhere. Fire the ad agencies. Brie didn't help. And Altima energy being synonymous with carjacked Dodge Challengers needs to change too.
Nissan needs to get back to their roots.
