Nismo window tint

I was driving my 2024 Nismo Z today and got pulled over by an Alabama State Trooper who promptly gave me a ticket for illegal window tint! I promptly told him it came from the factory that way (not sure yet if that is accurate) and he said it's too dark must be illegal. I don't know if this was installed by the factory or dealer but Im gonna find out. Has any one experienced anything like this related to window tint on your on your Z?

Dealer-installed if you didn't. The factory doesn't apply window tint films. Bring your ticket to the selling dealer.

I'm in Houston. If they're pulling you over for tint they need to find better shit to do. I'm 5% all around and completely illegal. No one cares here.

It's not that way here. This is the second vehicle I've been ticketed in. I dont know if it's illegal or not, he just eyeballed it. Major A-hole!!

You didn't mention whether or not the LEO used a tint-meter roadside.

I had hiway patrol (Chips m/c cop) do the same thing to me in a 370Z Nismo. They couldn’t get me for speeding- but pulled me over anyway. To be fair it was almost Limo tint. It gets hot enough here for interiors to deteriorate.

I figured I had to remove it- just drivers & passengers windows. It’s legal here to have the Z Qtr & Rear Windows tinted. Then I had the car inspected at a downtown CA HQ.

After that I paid just a $25 ‘admin fee’ instead of the full ticket. They told me a lot of drivers just pay the ticket every time & leave the tint.

Every time I’ve been pulled over for “illegal tint” the officer pulled out a meter and then apologized for being mistaken. It always feels like an excuse to find something else illegal that didn’t quite go their way.

The dealer had installed tint on the side windows and the back of my Z (it was a Nissan employee leased car). I've never had tinted windows on a car. I had the guy at Hallo Tint in Dyer Indiana meter the tint and it was 20%. It has to be 35% in Indiana, so it was illegal. The guy at Hallo told me the cops around here don't hassle folks about tint alone, but if you get pulled over, they'll likely issue you a non-moving/equipment violation ticket. For $100. I had them remove the tint. Frankly, the cabin in the Z felt so much more comfortable to me without the curtains installed. I'm 150% glad I had it removed.

Referred to as a "pretextual" stop, using the minor violation to investigate other suspicions. Controversial, but legal.
