Question to anyone they may know if this is normal for this exhaust or if I should take it back to Nissan (who did the install). This sound occurs when you go above 3k and let it come down.

I think its normal? Its hard to tell from what you're refering to in the video but if its the 'lawn mowery' sound coming down after the rev then it should be normal.

Okay thanks. Yes it’s the almost grind like sound that occurs when the rev is coming down.

Kinda like the sound. Always going to be something. Wish I could hear turbos spoiling.
The RZ34 has electronically actuated diverter valves, which vent internally (recirculate) so the sound isn’t very audible if at all. But I think thats what you’re hearing when you rev up & then take your foot off the gas suddenly. All that turbo pressure has to vent somehow.

If you want a more turbo sound that’s missing on the Z when you decelerate, there’s a fix:

You can change the stock diverters to blow-off valves. In the kit there are blow-off valves, and plates that block off the stock diverter units. Finally, 2 electronic boxes that plug into the harness and simulate the signal from the diverter units so the car doesn’t throw error codes. Note: I have no idea if this is a ‘good idea’ for a turbo engine long term. But it’s done quite commonly, and many people think it’s fine. You can even change inserts to get a ‘different tone’ to the sound, so it suits your taste.

Would I do it? Well no- as I don’t really miss that sound. I like quiet engine/ turbo sounds & a loud exhaust note. YMMV

If you want turbo sounds all you need is the right intakes.

I thought he was talking about the sound when you take your foot of the gas or downshift hard. But yeah, decent intakes never hurt. But that’s not the whole story. RZ 34 turbos vent internally through a diverter- so the sound gets muffled. Even the Nismo ones.

Is this exhaust lighter weight than the stock Performance? Sounds good and no drone? How about fitment and comments from the dealer installing? I'm still shopping around, heard about the Stillen already, not necessarily the Competition version.

Exhaust sounds great. No drone. I have no idea about the weight difference. I am happy with my purchase.

Hey So I want to buy similar Nismo parts that you have, street exhaust, cold air intake, etc, did you get installed by a dealer or did it yourself and how are you liking them so far now?

I cannot speak on the weight as I can’t confirm. I will say the sound has improved. It is louder, though, still on what I would consider the quiet side. The dealer talked me out of the track version and gave me the street for $1200 as they had a take off from a showroom model. I am happy with my purchase and the sound is noticeably louder. I was not looking for an overblown loud exhaust, so I am pleased. I will say though that the stock exhaust on the automatic sounds great as well after being able to compare the two. No issues with the shop. I was happy with their service. I had the nismo heat exchanger, cold air intakes, exhaust, and coilovers all installed at one time for $1,300. I am not the greatest mechanic so it was worth it to pay to have it done correctly.

I have seen videos of the track exhaust and wasn’t really a fan ???, 1,300 is not that bad, I was expecting considerably worse. I heard that if a dealer ship installs them, it rolls into the regular vehicle warranty?

you should run it in a Dyno and see if the HP’s boost and performance on other videos is the same to yours! Thanks!

I asked if it would all be covered under warranty and they did confirm it would be. I was pretty surprised by the cost as well. I called another dealer who wanted $550 for the cold air intake install alone. This Nissan dealer earned my business. Also, I thought it was cool how it was added to the Carfax that the accessories were installed.
