Couldn’t think of a better word to describe them but, my driveway has a slight downward slope towards the garage and these “flaps” drag a little each time I go in or out. Not a big deal, just annoying. I can’t think of any reason why I couldn’t trim them by a 1/4” or so. Anyone think of a reason I shouldn’t?

Are you talking about these?

Mine actually came not installed on my Z and I installed them myself. I bought my car late in the evening on a Friday and they said to come back on Monday to have these (and the front chin spoiler) installed.

Anyways, I did it myself. They are just simple bolt-on flaps that you can easily take off. There are 3 bolts. When I installed mine, I believe the bolt on the outer part of the car on each side was already there. I had to remove it and then there were 2 more that came with it.

I have thought about taking them off because I too have a driveway I scrape on sometimes but I am just dealing with it for now. If I ever took them off I would remove them but put the bolts back in there.

The front chin spoiler on the other hand is something i had to rivet in there so I will not be taking that off, plus I like the looks of it.

Aren't these simply brush guards?

Mine drag around my tennis community due to the drainage gullies everywhere and the steep angles they create at perpendicular roadway meetings, but I imagine their purpose is to alert the driver to potentially damaging angles of ascent/descent.

Thanks. I’m going to change the oil after break-in so will take a look at them then.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at them. Can’t see any reason not to shorten them.

From the 2023 manual: Air Deflectors.

Mine scrape all the time too (see thread).

I've decided to shorten them by just letting them scape. Sorry, oceans.

I took a 1/4” off but not enough. Will take another 1:4” tomorrow.

Disclaimer: not an aerodynamics expert.

It seems like if you lower the car, these aren't as essential. They exist (according to the manual) to improve aerodynamics, but lowering does that too, right?

Yeah lowering it should for sure.
I also am no expert but I don't see how an air-dam in front of the wheels makes it more aerodynamic. They aren't shaped like they would help but again, not an expert.

I would think it would be a good thing since there are no brake vents in the front of the Z (or are they channeled through the giant mouth in the front?) to have more air flowing around the tires.

Even if you remove these, there are still some smaller ones behind them that are not removable you can see in the pic I posted above. When I looked up the bigger ones, they were called "Air deflector extensions". So the do the same thing as the smaller, unremovable ones behind them, they are just longer. Which is why I suggested if they are giving someone issues, just remove them - there is still a smaller air-dam behind them.

no the NISMO just has a less than a inch little lip area on each side. not much protection from rubbing at all
