The closest gas station to my house is just insane (I live as far out of the main city as possible). It was $7.79 last time I drove by. Go to the next gas station which is like 5 miles away, $6.69. This is for premium.

Some guy just posted this from the UK on the 370Z owners FB group page. Here is how much it cost him to fill up his 350Z.

this would be really funny if it weren't so true...

this may open up a can of worms, but then again, this is the ot (everything goes) section.

the real question is, what needs to happen to get prices back down to "normal"?

Prices never go down, they only go up. ;)

Local petrol stations all quickly raise their prices whenever someone on the other side of the world sneezes despite having already bought the petrol they have months ago at the lower price. But when the price of oil drops, the stations still don't lower prices anywhere near as quickly, claiming they had bought the petrol at the old higher price. :(

Getting any from this greediness is the only plus point of an electric car.

Exactly. Price shoots up next day, but then pulling nails to get lower.

If electric can reduce oil consumption, a benefit I'm looking forward to, is telling shady characters/regimes we help prop up for petrol needs, to shove it.
What makes you think electricity won't have shady characters/regimes?

Pretty naive to think it'll stay status quo as more people become ever more reliant on it. I can already see taxes and rates going up just to pay for electrical infrastructure upgrades.

Yep I'm sure entities will always engage in creative ways to generate revenue and maintain control.

I mean more for middle east policy or dealing with regimes such as the one in Russia. A country such as the USA, should not have as much a hand tied behind the back when making decisions, needing a product controlled by a guy like Saudi MBS. Or other countries dealing with the regime in Russia.

Some of those oil countries don't make squat that anyone wants. I won't be unhappy if the leaders and supporting citizens of those countries lose funding and leverage (if electrification can reduce dependence on oil).
The problem with electricity generation in the USA, is like many things, we rely way too much on foreign countries for generation and distribution supplies. Solar panels from China, transformers from Korea, wind turbines from Europe.

All things (especially Chinese made items) at risk of issues from global impacts, conflicts and politics.

I think nuclear is the only way we can be truly self-reliant.

Just filled up at AU$2.24/L, so about US$ 5.90/gallon. Admittedly that was 98RON so it can be had cheaper
