Hopefully he documents the whole thing and releases a full project build video on YouTube after the build is done. Then we can see in-depth how much is similar or changed from the 370Z to the new Z.

You have to wonder…if your taking a brand new car apart to this extent and making such huge differences …why don’t they just buy the motor/ gear box etc…and build your own car around it ?

Did anyone else catch this insulation piece at starting at 3:41? Longshot, but, can anyone with a 370 confirm whether or not 370s had this as well? The reason I bring it up is because I would be concerned with that piece catching and holding moisture, eventually leading to serious rust out of the quarter panel.

The Challenger had a huge issue with that, even on cars that were only 4 years old, but that were subjected to rain on regular basis. The Challenger, however, used a foam material, very common on other cars as well. See here:

This material on the new Z looks a little different.

That insulation piece shouldn't be exposed to the elements. Looks like it's literally inside the panel they just cut. I can tell you the 15'+ 370Z Nismos have carpet wheel well liners in the rear. This is too help reduce road noise, especially from catching little rocks/pebbles. I believe this is ONLY on the 15'+ Nismo. I have a non-Nismo 370Z and I can tell you the road noise is pretty loud, but I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me. Whenever my tires pick up a small rock or pebble and it gets flung into the wheel wells, it is loud.

Anyways, I've never heard of rust being an issue for any model year or trim 370Z. The only area prone to rust is the underside, but if you properly maintain the car and it will be fine.

FD regs don’t allow completely custom chassis since cost to compete would be too high. Modifying an oem chassis is much more cost effective.
