BMW recalls Supra (again)... Why didn't you by the Supra instead of the Z?

Which one are you getting?

I was starting to become open to the idea of the Supra, but then I ran across this post on the Z Facebook comment section. As the years go by, they are becoming more and more common to see.

Well, they've been the "only game in town" for a while now.
No 3000GT, no RX-7, no Starion, no Evo.....
And the 370Z....eh.....

They are becoming more common, but that can happen with any massive produced car.

Toyota sold 4,952 Supras in 2022. (Jan 2022-Dec 2022), 258 of these sold in December.

2021 - 6,830 units sold.
2020 - 5,887 units sold.

(Comparatively, Toyota sold 215,853 Tacomas in the same period, with 20,855 of those sold last month)

Ill probably only see about 3-4 a month out here in Charlotte. At meets (I only mess with cars&coffee) there’ll be about 5-6 of them. It’s funny though how it’s changed from “lol nobody is buying those pos reskinned Z4’s, I never see them” to “I see them everywhere, they’re lame and played out now”.

Apples to oranges no? You have to compare numbers to other niche products (Boxster/Cayman, Z4, etc.) Also, I never said we would see them left and right (Mustang, Camaro, Challenger). I said they will be more common as time pass.

For 2022, 718 Boxster/Cayman models outsold the Supra 3 to 1 (but that's all 10 models combined in the range though).

1565 Z4s were sold in 2022.

Agreed - American muscle cars multiply like bacteria on a door knob in a public restroom.

When the terms rare and Supra are brought up, I think most car enthusiasts' minds go straight to the MK4. As stated in posts above, if the current sale continues we'll see 3-4 times the number of J29s compared to A80s. So yes, they will still be somewhat rare when compared to Tacos, but they will never be as exclusive as the MK4.

Wait until the BMW gremlins and/or attrition from accidents starts to cut their numbers.....

Yup, and still stand by what I said. Out of the 11,446 A80s that were sold in the US only roughly 7,000 were still registered, and this was back in the mids 2000s.

I didn't even realize that the real Supra sold in such low numbers.

Is that for both Twin Turbo and NA?

I guess it makes sense, they were technically more expensive than today's BMW Supra....

I had an F22 M240 a few years back, was a great car and exterior aside, I'm in no hurry to revisit the similarities in the Supra so went with a manual Z.
