BMW recalls Supra (again)... Why didn't you by the Supra instead of the Z?

Which one are you getting?

No issues here with my early 21 model. Most of the miles my car sees are at the track too. First race was at 500 miles on the ODO. The "oil issue" is way over blown.

Back to the title of this thread.
For me, I won't buy Supra because of two reasons.
1. styling. I won't call it ugly, but it's not for me.
2. BMW reliability. Owned a E39 V8 before. Outstanding reliability (in a bad way)
I got to know all the service advisers at local BMW dealer by their first names.
Had mine towed there three times due to cooling system... yes, lots of plastics really helped.

Is the oil issue really rare? Half of the 2021 owners that were polled said they have that problem.

Can only speak to personal experience and people I personally know.
I have an early 6port 2021 that is still tunable.
I bought on a Wednesday and was at the track that Sunday. So I sat the rings extra hard old school.
I do run 5-30

I also have heard zero consumption issues with 2022. So something was “fixed” or a bad ring machine was punted or something we will probably never know

He should have bought the GR86! Fewer people blow those engines. ;-)

Yes, the company that that treats engine bearings as a maint item. 1st replacement shortly after you buy the car, then around at 50k you get another set. Same time you get the vanos replaced.
No kidding... try buy a V10 M5 and this is what you get.

The S54, S65 and S85 seem to have more issues with rod bearings than BMW's turbo motors. Could still be a maintenance item on the N54, N55, S55, B58 and S58, I don't know, but the concern in comparison to the NA motors above seems extremely low. My rod bearings are being replaced for the first time in the next week or so, but that's only because the motor is coming out and it makes sense to do them at 155k miles. Interested to see how they look. Having a one piece 2-pin crank hub installed as well... now that's something that took BMW way too long to properly address. I don't believe it affects the B58 or S58.

I just saw this on the MKV group. There's a huge hole on the side of the block. So much for being able to handle 700hp+.
