Its me... I'm no politician tho

I been scurred for a bit if it was going to effect me bringing over my Skyline. Its at the Ports in Japan waiting for a ship to roll on and roll off at the Ports here in 'Merica 😎 🇺🇸

Car Dealership guy I follow on twitter, usually pretty good info, from last night....

"Madness at West Coast used car auctions today:

• Tacomas going $5K over MMR
• Most Chevy trucks way up
• Fords holding steady, but the lanes were wild

Felt like “COVID” market is back."

Trump could run for a 3rd term, win, serve the four additional years and still be out of office before someone could spin up a brand new auto manufacturing plant in US. Nissan's lead time on a new model vehicle is ~4 years to build it at a plant that already exists. The idea that you can just flip the 25% tariff switch and immediately start producing vehicles in the US is naive. If we really want to bring manufacturing back to the US, an actual long term plan is necessary, with a clearly defined ramp up to penalties and tariffs. Anything else is short sighted political grandstanding.

The real joke is that it's all a moot point anyways. In 10 years 90% of automotive manufacturing jobs in the US will be performed by physical AI using robots from... you guessed it, China.
This 'long term' approach sounds way more logical as to not shock our economy! We are already deep into trade deficit for years. US manufacturing is not ready to ramp up so quickly, years for plants to re-establish workforce, unions, and physical footprint. In the meantime stocks suffer and long term all vehicles and parts will see price hikes across the board.

How many here have seen even current stock Zs go up? Aftermarket parts? Of course greedy dealers will capitalize!

Its going to be a journey for sure. I hope it all works out for America. Either way since I just bought my 24 Z.

I wont be buying another for many years, so hopefully this will be settled by the time I'm ready for another auto buy.

Lots going on and I'm sure daily there will be tons of car news.

Nissan is considering moving some US & Mexican production to Japan. Models built in the North American plants are exported to 64 countries that may now be amending retaliatory tariffs.

Volkswagen has temporarily halted rail shipments of vehicles from Mexico and is holding cars arriving from Europe at port, citing the impact of President Trump's auto tariffs, and will introduce an "import fee" on affected vehicles.

was just posted in the Z facebook group he was informed by nissan that a 27% tariff is about to be imposed on the Z.

The timing of this is interesting as Japan met with the US yesterday to start negotiations. I think this will end with either no tariff on autos or maybe 10%. 24% isnt sustainable for anyone involved.

the Z is about to get hit. one side not to this is production of the 2025 ended in March after starting in November. Most of the Zs are already here

Interesting to see if there’s going to be a buying frenzy for cars already onshore or if it’s assumed there will be a reversal of tariffs.
