He was also very reluctant to give me information I already knew…as in cars built, and delivery was due in May ….kept saying he didn’t want to give me information and it not happen, although in the end when it was clear I had already been given said information he confirmed it . So to me it sounds like, they are not expecting it in May as it was planned

Thats so strange that they cant give you any clarity as to where your orders at given that they have confirmed it. Whats makes it even worse is that as I said previously that approx two weeks ago today when I rang a Victorian dealer about a click bait blue demo and he offered me a Yellow manual for approx May delivery, the Black manual he also offered me went to someone on F/B who also rang up about the click bait blue demo. Very strange that dealer you have never had contact with previously can pull out a few Z's from his back pocket and offer them out.
I reported the two dealers to car sales and the adds have either been withdrawn or now state demo not for sale or new car to order

Complete farce that some dealers seem to have spares, and others that have had orders for two years can not guarantee delivery.
If I was you, I’d also report said dealers to Nissan Australia, because it’s just not on.

To make things clear, my dealer says mid May delivery…Nissan Aus Management refused to give a timeline until I told them my dealer had already told me May…but even after that he skirted around it. “It’s an approx time fame, we can’t guarantee it will be here in May”

So where does that leave me?‍

Today I looked at a Z4, love it. Beautiful condition spectacular to look at. Yes it’s not a Z, so it doesn’t have the same power a Z does, and sadly it’s only auto.
BUT it’s also not a Z in some good ways. Interior is far superior, better stereo, ambient lighting, big screens, Sat nav inbuilt, Apple play no plug in needed, better reverse camera, wireless charging dock, much nicer internal materials..even basics such as automatic wipers that the Z doesn't have …and let’s not forget it’s a convertible (which I’m a bit of a sucker for) and it does have paddle shifters if I do want to feel a bit more connected
Better fuel efficiency and a model that’s been around a while so most of the kinks have been ironed out.
Last month I have also been told I have carpal tunnel syndrome , so perhaps as much as I am a devout manual lover, an auto might not be a horrible choice.

So what am I waiting for I hear you ask?

It’s 3 years old and has 0 warranty. It will cost me around 3K less than the Z But if something goes wrong it will cost a lot more. But on the flip side, i’m happy with everything in it, so no upgrade of stereo, camera, lighting, muffler

By some sort of coincidence my Nissan dealer called me for an “update “ today.
I was honest said I am looking at buying this car and may be asking for my deposit back. He said he would call head office and ask what’s going on. Called me back tells me mid May still on the cards for delivery but it’s not on a ship yet.
He said they usually release shipping info end of month or at the very start of the month …and that if it’s on the ship end of this month it’s totally plausible it would be here next month.
Me I’m not so sure, they kinda lost my trust a long time ago. (Not the dealer but Nissan)

So here I am, stuck in no woman’s land not really knowing what to do …if I wait and the Z doesn’t come I lose the Z4, if I jump the Z4 May have issues (although it’s like brand new and only 12k on the clock) and I bet the Z would show up next month, although more and more I think I would prefer the Z4 it’s just the warranty security that worries me.
So even if I wait for the Z, will I be happy when it arrives

At this stage I’m so confused I honestly don’t know what to do.
I know one thing. If the economy wasn’t in the toilet and I could afford 30k extra, I’d buy the Z4 new

You can if it has a 5 year warranty like a new car and then on sell.
My last car was a Peugeot RCZ type R …European.
So I can afford it as such except if something catastrophic happens like a blown engine .
If the car had just 1 year warranty I would get it, and make sure a third party inspected it so any major faults were fixed before the warranty ran out. But with 0 you’re at the mercy of what might be.
We know where it was purchased from new, and apparently it’s been serviced there ever since, so may give them a call and ask about it

I get your point, my point is…it’s not that I CANT afford a fix, but would obviously like not to spend money in the first two years of having the car
Similarly I could afford to buy one new, but with the uncertainty of what is happening with the economy right now I’d prefer to stick to my original budget

I would stick with the Z and wait it out, its what you have wanted from the begining, as I said I have been offered a total of 6 different Z configurations so far, 2 black, 2 grey a yellow and a blue auto, as tempting as it was to get one early I'm holding out for what I really want, a blue manual.

It is just so darn frustrating though. Here you are getting offers left right centre…meanwhile Nissan Aus management swore to me that they were offering cars in order end of story.

I just can’t believe them, and that is what makes it so hard to keep waiting.
The trust has been well and truly broken a long time ago ?

Well yes, buying a Euro out of warranty is what the saying infers but that wouldn't be as catchy.

Being a BMW it would be great when everything's working, but something expensive will almost certainly go wrong with it within the next couple of years. I totally understand the temptation though. I'd love one!

.I am pretty sure they confirm at the time of colour match…as I’ve been told mines coming directly through Fremantle
So they match your order to one of the colours that meets your specs in order that the order was placed and at that time dealer contacts us to see if we still want it, if not it goes to the next person, but if we say yes verbally then it goes to us.
The issue is dealers could well say verbally that the person is still interested even when they have already pulled out to keep the car
The time between making the car and delivering the car has been extended greatly…however if we are to believe reports even non Protos are supposed to be redirected the next in line if customers pull out, because at sale the customers details won’t match what Nissans Aus has and then the dealer misses out on the delivery fee …this clearly is not happening
it’s obvious there are some shonky dealers out there.

Asking for full payment before it’s on the ship is a bit much ( although I understand your reasoning) lot of money on a car sight unseen that could be damaged in transit or any number of other calamities

Just an FYI on extending warranty on BMWs, my experience anyway. I enquired with my selling BMW dealer about extending the factory warranty on my M240i in 2019. I was told that BMW did not offer extended factory warranty and could only offer an insurance policy type arrangement that cost $5K for 2 years. No, I didn't take up the offer and sold the car soon after the factory warranty expired. This was in NSW. There were no warranty claims in the 3 years I had the car and I enjoyed the ownership.

I don’t think so. I only got called about my car once it was in the local (state) Nissan warehouse. I also reckon the ship slots will be booked well in advance and so not as simple as changing the destination at the last minute.

But it’s not a Z. You’ve waited so so long. Don’t give up on the last lap. There will always be second hand Z4s (OK it’s sort of a Z) and other good second hand cars - i think only this one chance to own a new Z (manual)

I'd highly encourage you to wait...

Having picked up my car just a measly 11 days ago..
It's worth the wait, the joy it brings is priceless - in yourself and in others.

I passed a Z4 on my drive this weekend, red convertible.
The Z next to the Z4 is no comparison, the Z is superior in sentiment, I don't really care for numbers and measures (0-60, speaker quality, this, that, who cares...). The experience the Z brings is next to none.

I even stopped at a red light next to a lambo aventador and got thumbs up and smiles from that guy...

As Hammo said, you waited this long, don't give up at 40km on a 42km marathon...
Yes dealer suck more then anything in the current world, and damn Nissan HQ aint better.

But they are a chapter in the journey, not the journey itself.
Hold out, my 2 cents (or a nickel from Canada)
