I think that's the generic Nissan customer service #, they probably know about as much about these reservations as my chosen dealer does lol.
Very true. I called them and was told to email Nissan reservations.

Well that would be fine....if it worked. I just had a second email sent from another account and server sent back to me as "unable to deliver" so that email address they put out in their reservation confirmations is totally effed. Way to go Nissan Canada, you are inspiring great confidence in your competence here.

Yeah so for the people who didnt get that email from nissan canada my dealer told me not to worry about it. He told me he submitted my order in through the dealer system which had a deadline. He also stated doing so was better then doing the online reservation system which could lead to acquiring the car earlier

Same here: funny thing is , I got it like 24 hours later. Usually , you get that email right away. Very weird

Honestly , I agree. I’m from Canada and it’s a show. Starting to think they’re testing this with Canada and Australia first to see how to fix all the clinks.

Australia did it a little differently.
you can reserve on line but it’s not complete until you get an email from your nominated dealer. you pay that dealer direct, and they finalise the order….this way everyone no matter who it was paid their dealer, not a computer and as a result as soon as you do so you get confirmation from your dealer direct rather than waiting on an email, and with it your hand written contract.

I guess we did something right for a change…but the proof will be in the deliveries ?

Well actually paying Nissan Canada directly rather than a dealer has a huge advantage the way they have set this up here - we are allowed to change the dealer that sells us the car after the reservation is made but before it's delivered. This gives the buyer some serious leverage should he choose to exploit it. "I'd love to buy my new Z through you but I need a winter tire and wheel set from you at a discount to make that happen." " I want you to swap out the shipped tires for PS A/S 4s at no cost, you can keep the originals." Or call up other dealers and say "I'd be happy to move my purchase to you provided you do X".

I don’t see that being an issue….i don’t see any dealer making deals on a product that’s sold out …not gonna happen

It's not the dealer making the sale though unless you give him the car to sell, so if he doesn't play ball he loses the fat MSRP profit margin on one of Nissan's most expensive cars. Seems to me that is motive, shaving a grand off a $10k profit is better than $0 profit - plus he'll likely get your service business, more $ in the till.

These days it seems like the dealer is doing you a favor by selling you the car.

I called the sales manager at the dealer I selected for my reservation and everything is copasetic, I am in their system and will get notified of any developments like when official pricing is released. I made him aware of the non-functioning Nissan Canada reservations email account.

Couple of interesting points others might like to know:

  • he said it takes two months from the time the car is manufactured to get it here
  • he thinks we will be able to select items from the as-yet unannounced factory-installed accessories in time, he said these items are never listed in the initial spec release, always come out closer to production
  • he doesn't think that the 9" screen with nav is likely to be on that list of accessories :(
  • however some current Nissans do show some sort of nav display on their main digital-display IP from Android Auto/Carplay connected phones (Nissan is moving away from built-in nav according to him) and he thinks that will be the case with the Z
  • If you subscribe to the car's wifi-hotspot service after the free trial runs out you won't need to use data on your phone for real-time traffic etc.

Update: I just got a request for a "copy" of your driver's license - " To complete your order we will require a copy of your drivers license to prepare a provisional Bill of Sale which will be forwarded to Nissan Canada. A copy of the Bill of Sale will be provided to you as well for your records. "
I wonder if doing this then permanently ties your sale to that dealer. There is a dealer change form online on the reservation site but I'd like to know that will still work even after the provisional bill of sale is completed. How to find out..... UPDATE: not needed, see post below

Update on the update: when I wrote back asking if I could phone in my driver license info rather than put it in an email, I got informed they don't need that info after all:

"Sorry for the miscommunication, the information you submitted to Nissan has been forwarded to our dealership in a different portal, I will just copy that info and forward you the Bill of Sale." Since that process is automatic once you reserve I assume the provision to change dealers is still active after this step, or it would not be up on their site.

I preordered mine last week from local dealer, when they had the limited pre-order event. Earlier this week I received the following confirmation from Nissan. There was a Nissan Dealer call with the announcement Jan 25th where they were provided details. If your dealer missed the call they'll be clueless.

Thanks. I ordered direct from my dealer and have not seen this before.
