That's actually a good mental attitude to have, most are too gung ho first timers that over drive and over shoot corners, braking etc. very dangerous. I saw plenty when instructing at Auto Club Speedway then. Really you should sign up and for the first time GET an instructor provided by the org, huge ramp up to get the basics, braking points, apexes, etc. smoothness is key. I bet you will get hooked, our Zs are made for that, with the proper preps first, track brake pads, high temp fluids a MUST. Don't worry about the other mods, learn the stock handling first then build up from that baseline. Have fun, man and keep us updated.

There is an old article about the Shelby High Performance Driving School that used to be at Riverside. It went in to the amount of study, walk the track, drive it slow over a line on the track, etc that Brock would put them through before taking turn 3 (?) at speed. It was as constant radius turn, that most of the students thought they were the $#!+, but then ended up spinning out.

I think the article is in one of those "Cobra Digest books" of old magazine reviews..... Always took it to heart, as anytime Pete Brock talks it is informative and entertaining. Plus, it always illustrated how much I DON'T know.

I camp on Mt. Stupid. But, I'm smart enough to know I'm there.

Ironically, I saw that whole video the other day comparing track times between the Z and a Supra. The owner of the car already replaced the original brake fluid with Motul 660 before the track event. The driver lost brakes on track but got them back. What you saw in that video was the 2nd time he lost brakes after bleeding the brakes at the track. Pretty scary stuff and has me thinking the Performance needs a brake upgrade to do track work.

The issue isn't with the brake caliper/rotors themselves

it is the airflow going to the brake system. For whatever reason, this has been a fatal flaw going back almost two decades with the chassis

stock Akebonos are fine with better fluid, pads, and cooling. if you want, you can go titanium shims and 2 piece rotors

not the Z1 rotors. go with Paragon or Racing Brake

Why not the Z1 2 piece rotors?

Why not the Z1 2 piece rotors?
I personally have used them on track at low skill levels (300 wheel hp, no aero, 200TW tires) without issue but others in the same performance level have experienced cracking. Enough stories that the 370Z community regards them as mostly a street item for appearance, rather than real performance.

The way they got their price and weight target was through their choice of dimensions, material, and design time investment. Among the data lost in the 370Z forum were pictures and comparison of all the weights and dimensions of different 2 pc rotors

The Paragon rotors have more and better venting and more material to absorb and dissipate heat.

Racing brake also had good performance.

For street use: enjoy the cost, weight savings, and appearance

For track: better safe than sorry, spend the extra and go with Paragon or RB. I already grabbed some paragons to use after burning through my current set

RANDOM:
Endless brake pads don't work with DBA rotors due to materials not being compatible. Just . . . something to keep in mind.
