At VIR, hmmm, just don't chance the stock pads and fluids!

Might have been posted before...always a good reminder!

That Can definitely be scary!! Thankfully, with the Nismo, I just had to use Motul RBF660 fluid, and I don't have a problem. The stock pads did wear out fast though (I only got 2 track days / set). So I decided to put on the Carbotech pads, and they are definitely better, and last longer. I only have 2 track days on those so far, and there is still plenty of meat left, so I still don't know how long the Carbotechs will last.

Why would anyone track a car using DOT3 brake fluid?! Just stupid and irresponsible.

This goes for all cars, not just the Z. Same with Corvettes, Evos, etc. - stock brake fluid is DOT3. These are street cars from the factory, not track-ready racecars. $25 worth of fluid isn't asking too much of people if you truly want to be a track rat, and you should be flushing it after every event.

Street vs. track brake fluids have very different jobs and expectations; choose accordingly.

If you’re using track worthy pads like the XP10 or XP12 you’re fine, just watch your rotors, harsher pads will eat rotors quicker. I’d also choose slotted rotors vs drilled, where micro cracks could develop faster between the holes.

I love CT, i can not imagine tracking with stock pads. i can confirm the xp12 will eat the rotors fast, xp10 are much easler on the rotors.

Appears that Nissan upgraded the brake fluid to DOT4 for 2024+ which is good to see! I've confirmed that with both the 2024 & 2025 owner's manuals. I have a 2023 and already put DOT4 in it to match the clutch fluid, because it's just smart.

I wonder if there was addendum to the ‘23 manual? ‘24+ calls for dot 4

its definitely the GTR DOT4 on the 2024 Zs and up even though the 2023 called for dot 3. not sure if the 2023 manual was a misprint or they made the upgrade. my guess is they made the upgrade with the introduction of the NISMO and figured it was better to just do it across the board

I did roughly 4 hot laps in a row ( braking from 140) at VIR and the NISMO brakes held up ok. was cool ambient temps

I am always amazed at the engineering and attention to detail that goes in to tracking a car. Not a full-blown race car. But if I was to do a track day with my Z, how inadequately prepared I would be, and how lacking my knowledge is. Thank you all.

That's actually a good mental attitude to have, most are too gung ho first timers that over drive and over shoot corners, braking etc. very dangerous. I saw plenty when instructing at Auto Club Speedway then. Really you should sign up and for the first time GET an instructor provided by the org, huge ramp up to get the basics, braking points, apexes, etc. smoothness is key. I bet you will get hooked, our Zs are made for that, with the proper preps first, track brake pads, high temp fluids a MUST. Don't worry about the other mods, learn the stock handling first then build up from that baseline. Have fun, man and keep us updated.

Nissan should at least send addendum to the 2023 manual and inform owners to have dealers replace with DOT4 or the R35 version.
