Hi all,

I’ve removed the oil pressure solenoid on my 2023 Nissan Z and installed a block-off plate, so the engine now runs in high-pressure mode at all times. Idle pressure sits around 175 kPa (~25 psi).

I’m concerned about whether the OEM oil filter is suitable for this setup, especially regarding the bypass valve opening under constant high pressure.

Has anyone run this setup, and if so:
  1. Which oil filter are you using?
  2. Do you know the bypass pressure of your filter?

What oil weight are you using now?

Interesting. 57psi seems to be the limiter. I noticed that. To get those emissions efficency bonus credits from the govt Pre-Trump. Low as 16psi which sieze/ too low oil dispersion to the bearings. Yep lotta talk on this forum about oil viscosity and oil pressure. Seems you did your research which is good. Ill remove my solenoid as well in the future.

From this thread: https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/threads/oem-oil-filter-part-number.2787/page-5

I posted the following:

15208-65F1B (made in Japan by Mahle) : 250 kpa / 36 PSI
15208-65FOE: 98 kpa / 14.2 PSI
15208-9E01A: unknown. My google-fu is weak
Mobil 1 M1-108A: 103 kpa / 15 PSI
Mobil 1 M1-110: 103 kpa / 15 PSI

Per Z1 Motorsports:

*ATTENTION*
If you are using a heavier oil weight than recommended in your FSM, we recommend using the 65F0E filter to allow the heavier oil to flow properly.

IF ANYONE CAN FIGURE OUT THE RELIEF VALVE IN THE 15208-9E01A, please post it up.

I run 5w30, so I'll be using the 65FOE.

I don’t understand why a person would think an OEM filter couldn’t take whatever the pump can do. Kinda funny tampering with stuff like this and no clue what’s going on or will happen.

I remember seeing a post on here about oil leaks in the turbos but I don't remember if that user had thicker oil. There's also the rod bearing clearance to consider.

If I recall correctly, the solenoid LOWERS oil pressure. So, by disconnecting it, your engine is always getting the full power shot of oil.

How did you remove the solenoid, did you have the engine out of the car?

That’s correct, my idle sits around 175 kpa
Right, I’m aware, but the op stated he removed and installed the block off plate. So my question was to the op, if his engine was out to do this.
no, just a tight squeeze to get in on the left side of the engine. My mechanic did it on a hoist.

Stock should be fine, or use the GTR filter if you're worried(they run ~ 80pis stock). You haven't increased the max oil pressure at all(~57 psi) so unless the stock filter was bypassing almost all the time on power you're fine.

The bypass valve in the filter operates of the pressure differential. Your higher oil pressure at low rpm/load shouldn't effect anything except gas mileage.
