What will stop you from owning the new Z?

Well, Canada knows their allocations…that’s why some models are sold out…so why would Australia be any different?

They do, yeah, but it's not public knowledge (as far as I've seen), if there will be more preorder waves, if they'll be available once they're released for those who didn't preorder, etc.

Pricing also hasn't been solidified yet in any market, right? Again, that I've seen. As I've said before, I'm far from happy about how this has all been handled, but I feel like we're trying to fill the void. Where are these jumps in pricing being seen? From any official sources, or just folks speculating?

My point is, until we hear it from Nissan directly, I wouldn't put any weight into anything yet.

Well in Australia’s case. The early price was speculation by the media based on the prices that were coming out of the US. The 80k price was an estimate given to me by the dealer I ordered from, and they said at the time they set it high hoping that people would be presently surprised not upset when the prices were set…the 89k figure has only just been stated by the same dealer AFTER corporate visited last week with the release date and the dealer having their allocation.
so if we are logical and look about previous sources of information…the last one seems to be the most believable, which is why all is Aussies are concerned

To be completely honest at this point I'm curious as to how many people that say they plan on getting the new Z, actually end up getting one. The Z is such a niche car IMO, and I can tell you the car is not for everyone. Seeing people posting saying that if they can't get the new Z, they are considering getting an SUV, truck, or other non-sportscar? How does one go from wanting a 2 seater, RWD sports car to considering a completely different class of vehicle? Typically I would think that if you're looking to buy a new car you'd compare amongst cars that are all in the same segment, but to each their own I guess.

I'm willing to bet the majority of people here that say they're planning on getting the new Z don't actually ever get it. That's just fine because at the end of the day less demand = lower prices. Not calling anyone out or talking down, but I think a lot of people are just riding the hype train. Now that the hype train has slowed down, I see many jumping off.

I recommend anyone not familiar with the Z platform try to look for 370Zs or Q60 Redsports at dealerships in your area and take one on a test drive in the mean time until the new Z is here. This will give you the best idea of how the new Z will feel and if it's the right car for you.

"Try" being the important word. The local official Nissan website and my local Nissan dealerships don't even list the 370Z any longer, although some dealerships may still have one in stock, otherwise you'll have to test drive a second hand one instead (if you can find one, none of those at my local Nissan dealerships either).

I was thinking of renting a 370Z on Turo to see how it drives. Might behoove me to get a baseline reference for what a Z34 feels like.

I see one of three things happening for me:

1. I get the new Z
2. I get a Miata
3. I don't buy any sports car and instead rent a variety of them (and new Z, of course) on Turo to get my fix

How does one go from wanting a 2 seater, RWD sports car to considering a completely different class of vehicle? Typically I would think that if you're looking to buy a new car you'd compare amongst cars that are all in the same segment, but to each their own I guess.

I could see some people feeling emotional about specifically wanting the new Z and were willing to sacrifice practicality in owning one, but once their hopes for acquiring one at a reasonable price/timeframe are dashed, they move on to a more sensible purchase.

I still don't believe that Nissan Australia would be foolish enough to try to sell the Z at a price nearing the Supra's, but I agree that all the warning signs are there that they're preparing to gouge Z customers.

The 370Z still seems like a reasonable competitor to the new Z here in AU, especially given the possible/likely price disparity. I see you have a 370Z, out of curiosity what's the main appeal of the new Z for you? I feel like the infotainment could use some modernisation, but otherwise it seems like a solid sports car?

Good luck getting a new 370 in Aus, even though it says we technically can, my dealer ordered one for a buyer last year. Said it was really difficult to actually get, took months
Second hand, yeah there is a fewmand in fairly good condition, but interior and infotainmen is ancient, as is safety extras which may not seem like a big deal till your registration starts going up as the safety ratings change.

One of the biggest reasons I want a new car is the warranty ….I was really tempted by the 14 year old Elise with low km that I saw, but my sons commodore which is in mint condition ( as before him it was only owned by his pedantic grandfather) has just started having issues and whilst at the moment it’s only a couple hundred here and there it’s only a matter of time…and the Elise parts etc would be far more expensive
A good warranty can be worth thousands.

As to Nissan gouging us…I sincerely hope you are right, but the company is in debt with a product that has off the scale interest in this country, so I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s not easy

Is there some kind of change to license & rego rules to factor in safety? I must admit I haven't paid a great deal of attention to the breakdown of charges. I agree that a warranty is nice safety net on a car purchase though

It’s different for every state and there has been talk about it, but as yet it’s mostly based on the weight of the car.
However lower safety ratings do impact your insurance fees

I got my 370Z over 2.5 years ago now. The main appeal for me is that I love cars and I wanted a sports car as my next car no matter what. The main cars I was shopping between were the 13'+ 370Z coupe, ~13'-15' Infiniti G37/Q60 coupe, ~13' BMW M3 coupe, ~14' BMW M235i coupe, or ~14' Mercedes CLA45 AMG. The CLA45 AMG was kind of an odd ball out, as it is a sedan, but none-the-less it is still a very capable sports car.

I went with the 370Z because I found one that was a great deal, but also because it stuck out to me most with it's unique looks, it's got pretty good power, and it's a fairly uncommon car. I'm not sure how it is where you live, but I can say here where I live in the US the 370Z is not a car you see often. Where as, for example a Mustang GT you see left and right on a daily basis. And yes the infotainment and interior overall are very dated, but it doesn't bother me. What's more important to me is how the car feels and looks on the exterior.

As far as the New Z, the appeal for me is that I already love the 370Z platform and they have updated everything I'd want for the new Z. Better interior, forced induction, more power. After I pay off my 370Z next year I am considering trading it in for the new Z or a used BMW M2. Those are the 2 cars highest on the totem pole for me.

Well I may not be getting my Z after all. My wife is quitting her job and I just found out that I get to give the government a bunch more money so they can waste it. And I'm about to have two kids in college at the same time. First world problem I know….

I'll just add that the Q60 Red Sport is obscenely expensive. Of course it has rear seats, leather, sunroof and can be had with AWD, but they begin at low 60's, which in the market space they occupy is a heavy price compared to the competition.

And that's why you only see 1 or 2 a day. 60k for a Nissan car is ridiculous
