Personally speaking I was really excited for the Supra but once the final product came out the looks didn't appeal to me. A couple of my buddies didnt pick it up for that reason as well. Looks are subjective though so to each there own. As far as performance I am expecting the new Z to be 4.0 flat or maybe a tad under depending on how fat the driver is, lol. The Q60 does it in 4.5 and is alot heavier and has an older transmission.
Same reason I didn't get it either.

0-60 is also affected by rear end differential gearing.

Fun fact: the N/A Z32 has a slightly shorter gear in first compared to the TT to make the first gear acceleration a little more exciting.

Yes, someone from Nissan did say that.
370z: 0-60 time is about 5 secs.
85% of 5 = 4.25sec.
The 370z must have gotten slower over the years… When it first came out all of the reviews were getting 0-60 in 4.7-4.8 seconds.

I’m optimistic that it’s 85% of 4.7 which would put new Z at around 3.9-4.0 seconds

Depends which transmission.
The 7AT is much quicker than the 6MT, and can get the 370 to 60 nearly mid-4's.

I've seen the Q60 do 4.3 to 60, and it weighs several hundred pounds more than a Z.

The new Z might struggle getting the power down (especially the open diff model) but I bet in-gear acceleration is every bit as strong as the Supra. I just feel BMW lays power down better than the Japanese brands.

So we'll probably see slightly slower 0-60 than the Supra, but 1/4mile trap speed should be right on top of the Supra

Don't forget the MT gets launch control this time, will that make it quicker?

The times they announce won’t really matter anyways since most owners will choose the slower manual instead. I’m not sure how it’s a “supra killer” unless it’s just as fast for less money; neither of which are confirmed at all.

My guess is it will be slower but also less money. Kind of like getting a gr86/brz, good fun manual option car but not on the same performance level of a mkv supra stock let alone modded

The car will be objectively worse than the Supra, but subjectively better. Mostly because it is true to its heritage and it looks pretty good. Plus stick shift.

People forgive a lot when they feel like the product is honest. When someone sells you a BMW and tells you it’s a Supra, people get annoyed, no matter how great the car actually is. Also, when the final product is so different from the concept, people lose some faith there too.

EDIT: 0-60 in 4.5 seconds with manual.

Agreed, and under 4.0 with the 9AT. Basically, on par with the Supra.

When the Supra gets a 6MT, it'll be just like the Z, slower compared to the AT

4.7 seconds seems right for a 6MT 370z with the 7AT being about 0.2s quicker at around 4.5 seconds. The new Z in manual will probably be around 4.1 seconds manual and probably 3.9 seconds automatic. As far as what is more powerful, the Z wins hands down. The powerband is much wider on the new Z even compared to the Q60 (1,600rpm - 5,600rm peak torque for the Z and 1,600 - 4,500rpm peak torque for the 2021 Supra).

Guess I gotta stay with my 2009 GT-R. Advertised as 480Hp and 3.5 seconds 0-60, I added an HKS exhaust and ran it on the dyno at Cobb Tuning before and after. It showed about 520Hp after, so 0-60 should be about 3.23 seconds.

New Z owners, meet me at a stoplight and we'll see. Carrollton TX. You come to me to give the old man a break; 81 next month.
