What did you do with your Z today? 🙋🏻‍♂️

I got a slightly better price from Safelite last year when this happened to me, using Nissan OEM glass. Safelite also nicked the paint along the top edge and got to pay to repaint my roof. Along the way the body shop discovered that the Safelite tech had damaged both the interior and exterior A pillar trim pieces and attempted to glue them back in place with black silicon to hide their mistake.

Total cost to Safelite was about $6k for the repair. Second time in 20ish years they've paid for bodywork to fix their terrible quality work. Safelite will never touch my vehicles again.

I had to replace 3 windshields over the last few years, maybe more than that but 3 that I can remember right off the top of my head.

Safelite was never the cheapest.

20 years ago they were the best game in town. Not anymore.

The local glass companies used OEM glass as well, even though there was an upcharge.

It definitely pays to shop around.

Completely worth the money if you're willing to wait.

I will definitely report back! I'm curious what you think as well. I'm expecting a huge difference from OEM.

I have to wait a bit still, I want to get more use out of the OEM as they're not gone yet. I hear a lot of road noise, been my complaint with the car from day one...I suspect it's been the tires all along and I hope I'm right

These days, I loath Safelite.
They now use Chinese FuYao windshield, charge too much for Chinese glass and if you ask for OEM they quote such a high price as if they don't want the hassle of acquiring OEM glass from the dealership.
They also charge way too much to "fix" chips, almost as much as what an aftermarket windshield used to cost. I now fix chips myself, surprisingly I have had excellent results fixing my own chips. I even bought a UV LED light for curing the chip resin, my repairs come out better than the times I used to pay for it. I've got 3 vehicles that I've repaired chips on over the past 3 years, and they've all held up well and didn't expand.
Y'all should give it a try if you get a chipped windshield, it's much cheaper, and if I can do it, any automotive enthusiast who is competent with basic maintenance can do it too

I'll have to look into that. That huge chip I had repaired on my Z cost $90ish IIRC. I was freaking out, hoping that the thermal expansion/contraction wouldn't crack it before it was repaired--it was a 1 or 2 day wait. One of the Mustang windshields I had replaced---I was scheduled for a chip repair but the Florida sun cracked it before they came out.

I'm going to search it. Never occurred for me to look into it until you mentioned it, so thank you for that! Any brand you recommend?

Here's a pic of a really bad chip on my wife's car, it had already begun spreading and had rock material stuck in it, I was not going to try and dig out the rock (I repaired it at the end of 2024):

The chip is right in the garage door opener reflection.

And they don't guarantee it. For $200, if the chip turns into a crack, they should apply that $200 to a new windshield.
