Ford Motor Company has moved to patent an electronic clutch system that would allow drivers to manually shift gears without having to worry about clutch engagement. Unlike conventional clutch actuation, Ford’s idea would do away with the physical connection between the clutch pedal and the throwout bearing, instead, clutch operation would become an electronic control based on sensor inputs to an algorithm. It could mean a new feature for the upcoming S650 Ford Mustang, an updated Ford Bronco, or a hot hatch like the Focus ST.

According to the patent abstract discovered by MC&T within the USPTO database, the system would feature a control module designed to automatically actuate the clutch allowing the driver to simply shift gears by moving the gear stick alone. The module would begin to disengage the clutch after a sensor in the shift knob tells it the driver has grasped the lever and has begun to move it through the detent, it would then reengage the clutch when the vehicle understands the shift has been completed."

^ Reminds me of the early tiptronic semi-auto transmission available on some early 911s. You shifted without a clutch.

I think you're referring to the Sportomatic. I believe the tiptronic was fully auto tranny, started with the 993 (90s 911). That description reminds me is the E46 auto tranny w/ the clutch and gear controlled by powerful hydraulic system.

Far fewer deaths is what having better gun laws gets you - it's simple common sense: fewer idiots with guns = fewer deaths.

"Gun laws" focus on legal owners who rarely kill anyone with a firearm.

BTW, that statistic you shared still isn't scary. I never fear gun violence, I'm more scared of cancer, other terminal health problems or car accidents

Criminals give zero effs. Love to see you reduce gun crimes when we have a porous border with another country struggling with gun crime despite even stricter gun laws. BTW, Mexico's gun violence death rate is even higher than the US, 30% worse (and as noted, most gun deaths from legal firearms in US are suicide, so Mexico is likely 3x more dangerous by gun used for violence), and it's damn near impossible to own a firearm privately over there. Our border is porous to fentanyl, immigrants, gangs, etc and these problems flow into the US pretty much freely. Australia is effectively an island with difficult to penetrate borders. Not comparable to our continent

Also, I'd argue our society is full of far more ignorant idiots than either Canada or Australia, because we have some serious issues all the way around. Putting "gun laws" on law abiding people is purely about political posturing. People will just get themselves killed some other way if you were to remove all guns from the American continent.
