I currently have 175K on my Chevy Impala. With any luck I'll make it to 200K.

Seems to be more about the value of a vehicle as opposed to how physically reliable it is (I read how they arrived at the data) good example is Landcruiser vs 4R vs Prius, all exceptionally reliable machines, but the Landcruiser is more "worth it" to keep it high miles. The 4R probably ends up getting beat to death by it's 3rd owner and the Prius eventually ends up being a Uber slut, dying a slow death due to battery issues.
I've already got my box-shaped heart set on the Cybertruck, but I do hope an all-electric Frontier pickup is in the not-too-distant future.
A good move by RJ and company, but.....it will shrink market share for those that have NOT pre-ordered. Price hikes become out of reach for most now, and the competition (F150 Lightning, Silverado) are coming.
That's my biggest beef with the cybertruck, looks like something any moron can cobble together! I've been proven correct!
There a lot of lobbyists to be paid off and many state laws needing to be changed for this to happen. This may technically be more speculation/opinion than it is hard news, but......
Besides the very real issues you just mentioned, the whole "right to repair" fiasco would play into this also. Currently, manufacturers are making vehicles that only a dealership can fix. Would manufacturers have their own service centers or would they finally allow independent shops full access to the resources required to repair modern vehicles? There a lot of lobbyists to be paid off and many state laws needing to be changed for this to happen.
I do hope this becomes the norm, though.
In the vid, they mention that Ford Model E as a company (separate from ICE Ford) can sell directly to consumers, as electric car companies already have a carve out to be exempt from the dealer status quo. There a lot of lobbyists to be paid off and many state laws needing to be changed for this to happen.
