The oem shift knob was no joke. I knew it was bad but oh man….
To anyone thinking they want to change their shift knob, just be sure you want to because not only is it difficult but shortly after beginning you’ll probably mess up your oem shift knob to the point where you can’t go back.

I decided to just sacrifice my oem knob, I’ll attach some pictures of just how bad the damage was and also of my new shift knob

For anyone wondering, I use two pliers: one at the base and one to twist.
my friends heat gun was my best friend.. I’d definitely recommend it. I’d also recommend doing this with another set of hands that can help you throughout the process

Better than mine, when I did it the threads on the shift lever snapped and stayed in the shift knob.

I've seen some people saying there's a screw you can loosen under the top cap with the gears diagram. Can you confirm if that's true?

I am not completely sure, I’m not home right now but when I’m home I’ll try to pry open the cap and see

There is no set screw on the knob. There is a spot for it, but the over used loctite did the trick

Nissan... if it isnt blue all the way thru, youre doing it wrong 😅

Trying to understand why on earth Nissan would do this to the shift knob. Seems like they are unnecessarily creating a problem for themselves if/when their dealerships/techs would ever need to remove the shifter, shifter boot, trim piece around the shifter, etc. Or by chance do Nissan dealerships/techs have some sorta secret method for removing the shift knob? Asking because I too am interested in upgrading my shift knob to something metal and weighty, but don't want to destroy things in the process, so if a trip to dealer is way to go about this, then ok.
