I'm getting close to my first oil change and thinking of using Motul 8100 power 0w-20 in keeping within factory specifications. It's fully synthetic and Ester based. Just wondering what you guys think.

Probably amazing oil, but although it says it meets API SP, it is not API certified. That’s a warranty problem if you care.

Type in “8100” in the “brand search” box.

https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsResultsDetail?accountId=-1&companyId=10202&resultsUrl=https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsResults?accountId=-1&companyName=Motul
I wonder how many warranty claims have been denied if they find out the oil was not API certified? I guess they would look for any reason to reject a claim.

interesting. if it doesn’t show up on the API list from the link above then it’s not actually certified?

Per an article from the interwebs:
“8100 Power offers a high-performance product with an API SP standard – meaning it can be used under OEM warranty when an API standard is requested – and it offers a real warranty for the end-user, thanks to this API stamp, which is not usually possible with Motul 300V, because of its competition credentials.”

Not sure, but it also doesn’t have the starburst API symbol on the bottle. Technically it is not certified and doesn’t meet the manual’s spec.

8100 Power is API PERFORMANCE SP and is backwards compatible with previous API categories. It does not need the star. On the API website it states that. The API SP would not otherwise be able to be posted right on the front of the container. There are multiple variants of star, shield, a circle etc. it is “performance SP” I’m guessing because it is for Race and street use. If it wasn’t okay for warranty then why would Nissan sell it for the GTR?

So you think that if it doesn’t have one of THOSE api stickers on it then it’s not really api ? Like they are lying to trick you so they can laugh at you when your engine fails because they sold you an inferior oil?
