The Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ is the only car available in the last few years that I'd even remotely think about if I was forced to replace my S13 200sx for some reason.

Nissan should really bring back a proper* 200sx, at a lower price level than the Z, as a competitor to the Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ.

* "proper" meaning a 2+2 coupe like the old ones, rather than the ridiculous little 2-seater that was rumoured a few years ago to be using the nameplate.

Well, let's see ...
  • it's a silly electric car,
  • it's (probably) not front-engined, rear-wheel drive,
  • it's unlikely to be a real manual/stick-shift (they are trying to fake it on electric cars),
  • the renders/artist-impressions look disgusting,
  • the renders look like a 2-seater rather than a 2+2
  • it's supposedly resurrecting the 1960s model rather than the popular 1980s+ models
  • ...
That would be a resounding "Good God, NOOOOoooo...!!!!".
That's even worse then the silly roadster thing from a few years ago.

I did say it had to be properly done. :)

That's an impressively small difference to the STI.

Makes me wonder how much drivetrain loss the STI has, because you would think it should just walk away from the BRZ. The new Golf GTI certainly does (against a GR86), even with the standard FWD scrabble off the line.

I used to slaughter tuned WRXs and STIs with my 2016 GTI DSG stage 1. Those cars aren't fast on a roll. That STI likely would've put 2+ cars on the BRZ/86 from a dig. I would intentionally wait until we were rolling in the GTI before racing one of those, they do well off the line.
And I believe the 2015+ WRX was basically as quick as the STI.

Sat in both auto and manual BRZ's today. I thought the cabin was pretty nice and would have few complaints with sitting there every day. Underpowered for me, but after being able to really check them out in person I'm glad we're getting one whenever this craziness dies down a bit.

That's what she wants unless they were to come out with a Gray Khaki for a limited edition or something like they did on the prior gen. I'd still go with WRB but it's not my $ ?‍♂ I'm just glad she's on board with getting a 6MT BRZ in any color.

I love my first gen BRZ. I don't have a lead foot, so the lower power hasn't been all that much an issue.

There are a few styling cues I don't care for on the second gen BRZ/86, but must confess warming to it and watching more second gen videos lately. Due to what is looking like years out waits for the new Z, and perf price tipping near the 50k price range. Feel the Z slipping away. :(

A GR86 at around 30k, is increasingly looking like a possibility down the road.
