Ok, thanks for posting that. I didn't realize the single overdrive vs the double overdrive on the Mustang but I figured gearing was probably part of the equation, plus the power band being different like you say with the NA vs turbo torque. It was just real surprising to me and the automatic Z I drove didn't seem near as quick but everything I've read online says the exact opposite. I'm still breaking the car in but I did do a couple WOT pulls (I couldn't resist) and I was shocked how easily the Z will just blow the tires...the Mustang will too but it comes on at the top of the rpm range and it lets you know it's coming...the Z is like a light switch lol...My friend has a S550 6MT and yeah the Z does pull way harder than the 5.0. The 5.0 has a typical NA powerband that has power rising with RPM, as with the Z hits you hard with a bunch of torque early and holds it through most of the RPM range. Also the S550 6MT gearing is such that 4th gear is 1:1 so the gears are longer as you only have 3 gears that are underdriven vs in the Z 6MT 5th gear is 1:1 so you have 4 gears underdriven. When a gear is under driven the engine has a mechanical advantage vs overdrive gears the engine is at a disadvantage thus feeling slower.
They're similar in some ways and different in others but so far the mechanical transition for me has been pretty easy. It's the steering wheel controls and infotainment stuff that's taking me getting used to...
