Took my car for an oil change to a "decent" local mechanic, paid $70 brought the car home and something told me to check, so I popped the hood... Coolant was leaking from both overflow openings. The clown ( for no reason) took it upon himself to top fill with the shops blue universal cheap stuff. I was lucky to catch it, and if I may add A small PSA right here. There is a reason why these guys are mechanics, I dont understand why people trust mechanics so much I have so many horror stories unfortunately, and for the love of god if 1 thing! DO NOT leave your car ever, they will test drive your baby like its a rental. ALWAYS STAY WITH YOUR CAR< ESPECIALLY IF THEY ASK YOU TO LEAVE IT!!!!! THIS GOES DOUBLE FOR ANY DEALERSHIP!!!!!

Can I use steel ramps with this car? Id like to just do my own oil changes from now on, with quality motor oil.

Do i have to take my car to Nissan for a coolant flush now?how much $ for the job?

Yes you can use ramps. These work perfectly for our cars, are lightweight/easy to store with customization options:

Race Ramps

Why do you think the "blue universal cheap stuff" is going to harm your Z? If it's blue coolant, it's made for Nissan 2009 and newer, even if it's not Nissan brand its probably made in the same factory.

Mixing universal blue coolant with the lifetime coolant from Nissan which is in fact a special formulation VS the universal blue fluid. Now its 60,000 mile fluid at best.

Thanks, I was afraid that the lower spoiler will catch.

Gotcha.

You won't have any clearance issue with that link I posted. If you get one of the aftermarket undercovers with a service hatch oil changes only take a few minutes.

Stuff like this is why I’ll just take my Z to the local Nissan dealer, especially while it’s under warranty. I’ve been very pleased with their service. Is it the cheapest service? Of course not, but I’d rather pay a few more bucks than trust my Z to someone who may have been working at Quicky Mart the previous day.

A few years back, I was having a Toyota serviced at a Toyota dealer. They discovered the oil pan drain plug hole was stripped and the pan was going to have to be replaced. The service rep told me they weren’t sure the warranty would cover it. I told them all the previous maintenance done on the car had been done by a Toyota dealer and had the records to prove it, if they didn’t. No problem, replaced under warranty. I doubt that would have happened if the stripped pan had been due to a hasty job by a non-Toyota tech. I didn’t want to think what the bill could be for having to cover some very expensive stuff for something that had been screwed-up by Barney Fife at “U break it, We fix it.”

Go see Goober and Gomer at Wally’s. Top-knotch work…as long as your car is pre-1959.

So you took your Z to a local mechanic instead of a dealer and now are upset they did something you didn’t like? Most shops will top off low fluids unless told otherwise. If you’re that particular about your car why didn’t you just go to a dealer? I doubt the universal coolant will cause any damage like a poster already stated stuff most likely made at the same factory. My rule of thumb is take cars to dealers while under warranty. I still do oil changes in between the recommended intervals if I feel it’s necessary.

Years ago I took my Toyota to a quick oil change place to have the rear differential oil changed. The guy who did the work forgot to replace the plug or did not tighten it. About a week later I was on the highway when all kinds of noise occurred at the rear of the vehicle. I went to Toyota & found out the plug was gone, the differential was dry, and the rear end was fried. It ended up with me having to buy a new differential. The quick oil place denied everything & left me stuck. That was an expensive lesson & one I have not repeated.

listen to this guy imply dealerships have the hands down best mechanics EVER. Watch him backtrack his stupid comment now ..... as if mechanics that own their own shops strive to work at a damn dealership, dude you are a clown dont post here.

Exactly. It's not like this type of advice hasn't been around for awhile.
