Wow that’s interesting, l also get a strange metallic random tinkling noice from the right side of the engine on warm up like a coin is rattling around under the cam cover ( only noticeable with the hood up) goes away when hot.
Damn that sounds pretty similar to what I got but mine was somewhere like rear behind. It happened a lot during winter but not happening recently. I'm still looking for the source of that metal noice, if you don't mind you can check the thread I posted couple of days ago about the exhaust. The very beginning of the in cabin video, not sure if it's something like what you heard?

If you mean the metal sound at the beginning, yes that’s what I was talking about. The others is just I was trying to catch more sound other than the drone.

Thanks, I’ve seen that racebox info , plenty to keep us worried there. TBH I can‘t get enough volume out of the video to hear any significant noise at the start but as the video proceeds l can vaguely hear the chafe cutter knock l was referring to. This noise is much more pronounced when cold which says to me as everything expands with heat it gets less.

Is the noise you are hearing a deep knock or clack sound? The sound I hear is and not that pronounced at all. I only hear it at idle and around 1200 RPM. After that it disappears.

Pretty similar here, not really hearing it after it’s warmed up. That’s why it’s hard to replicate to people working at the shop because I drive it daily and can’t really replicate the noise without putting the car in the shop for a day or longer.

I’m betting it’s normal and everybody has this noise. It’s just so subtle that most people aren’t picking up on it.

It’s not a deep clack, more a soft knock more pronounced when cold on fast idle outside the car, gets less as revs drop and engine warms up. Can hear it as l drive off at low revs through the gears. When fully warm it’s only noticeable in the cabin feathering the throttle 1000 - 1100 revs. Not noticeable outside the car when warm.

I wish it’s just my ears are sensitive. But the sound is pretty noticeable when you physically in the car. So I’m trying to find a time that I can put the car in shop for several days so they can cold start it and try to find the source.

Yes, a soft knock is an excellent way to describe it. We are definitely hearing the same sound.

I took my car to my Nissan dealership about 6 months ago, left it over night so they could listen to it cold start up, these guys are just service monkeys really, no real experience with the internals of these engines. The tech there just scratched his head saying “there’s a lot going on in these engines, a lot of stuff whirring around to make all kinds of noises, don’t worry about it” l knew it would be a waste of time but had them notarise my complaint for warranty purposes. I got them to start up a new Z ( it was an auto) and l didn't hear the noise.

I agree, it’s definitely a waste a time taking it to the dealer for something like this. Unless there are a bunch of lights on the dash telling them what’s wrong, they will just send you on your way. It’s good that you got a documented though. Has the sound gotten louder or any worse?

Its hard to say I’ve added some Liquid Moli Ceratec additive, seems to be better cold start but no difference when warm.

How many miles do you have? I’m only at about 1015. I noticed the noise when I first test drove my Z. I was so excited I didn’t really think twice about it. The next morning I started it up in the garage and the noise was there. I just assumed it was normal. I just recently started zoning in on it and wondering what it could be.
