I really like this one. Wish the "Z" logo was the current style though.

I think Nissan dropped the ball on a lot of small things that wouldn’t have cost a lot of money. Like having the Z emblem on the Shifter and other cosmetic items. Also not having power folding mirrors, and rain sensing windshield wipers as at least options in NA market is crazy!

Holy hell. I read elsewhere this thing was tough to get off, but I wasn't prepared. Multiple people, multiple pairs of vice grips and a pipe wrench later, we were able to get it off. The stock knob didn't make it out unscathed, unfortunately.

With that being said, this knob from Z1 is really great. I was worried I wouldn't like the stick style, but I do. The weight isn't significant compared to the stock knob, so if it's weight you're after, this isn't it. You feel a lot more of the transmission given it's straight metal, which I think is my biggest compliment to it.

That looks clean! Any chance you can send the link for the shift collar? I just replaced my knob (complete nightmare also) and I can’t find a retainer that fits nicely like yours.

Not the op. But I'm assuming it's the Z1 shift knob finisher . I have bought one but trying to find a rubber insert to stop it from rattling (I put it on a shift extension so the knob doesn't hold it down).

I thought I could remove the shift knob with a little heat and a strap wrench but no luck yet. The whole mechanism twists so much with very little pressure so I feel like I need a pair of channel locks around the base of the shifter.

I’ve tried lifting the console from inside the glove box (like I saw in a YT video) but I’m not having much luck getting the cover lifted. Is there anything I need to unscrew first? How are you getting the plastics removed?

Thanks, I watched that and tried to remove it the same way he did without any success. He makes it look super easy. When I tried, I can barely get the pry tool between the plastics.

Wasn’t sure if folks had another method.

You don't even need a pry tool, just pull directly up on the console with the cup holders and it will pop right up, same for the shifter surround, you can get your finger under it right in the back wherte the console was covering. The shift knob itself however,...

have to drive with the shift knob of shame to work tomorrow:

Fun fact: a new shift knob is ~$200 and the shift lever is ~$400: https://parts.nissanusa.com/parts/nissan-gear-shift-assembly-328396gp0a

Luckily Nissan doesn't update parts unless a literal gun is to their head so I'm 99% sure a used 370z lever from fleabay is the exact same thing. I could also go short shifter but the throws felt fine to me stock

How it turned out:

Note that it isnt fixed for real here. I ended up rethreading a universal shift adaptor to the stock thread and machining it down to size to fit the stock plastic trim ring. I also had to cut ~1/4th inch off the remaining shift lever to get it to sit correctly, but its rock solid now and im not very motivated to install the replacement lever I bought.

Boot is the rsw japan in blue alcantara wirh black stitching (doesnt match the factory blue, its a darker more sapphire blue. At first I was concerned but kind of like it now.)

Knob is a cheapie amazon knob o bought as temporary but ended up liking a lot. The stock knob fits perfect again with the machined adaptor but ive grown attached to the cheapie.
