I'm sure that Nissan undergoes the very common internal debate between Marketing and Engineering regarding what can be done vs what will sell. The company has to stay in business so they have to make a product that will appeal to the broadest market within the subset where that product sits. No doubt in my mind that the Z as marketed in stock form is not the ideal race car, but it's probably incorrect to believe that the car pleases no one just because one is not squarely in their marketing target. The car pleases me (mostly), but I'm confident that you and I have a very different set of expectations. Which of us is in the target market...time will tell and we'll see that in the form of different pricing, revised engineering, different options, or termination of the product. No competent manufacturer will continue selling a product the pleases no one.
Yeah between the two a track driver is going to have more of a chance adjusting their car and working on / modding it than the common "I just want a fun sports car" person who will just drive it and not track it.
I have no regrets about purchasing the car. It has been fun, but I do feel that Nissan could have made the car better for not much more money. The suspension has been my biggest qualm. If it was adjustable, it would solve the 'I want to take it to the track and I also want a comfortable road cruiser. I think Nissan tried to find the sweet spot that ended pleasing no one. It is now on the market.
Yes, I choose my words poorly. I guess I missing a car that I could take to the track one day and then take it on a road trip with my wife the next. If I put coilovers and sway bars then it becomes a track car which isn't comfortable on road trips. I have owned previous cars that the adjustable suspension let you do that. In its stock state, I feel the Z is a GT car and less of track car. But like I said, it has been a fun ride.Should've bought an M car if you weren't going to mod it ?‍
IMHO, there is no such car.
After trading in my 23 Z Performance, I've been enjoying my 24 Nismo Z as a daily driver. I don't track my cars, but feel the new Nismo Z would shine bright on the track. Take one for a test drive if you have the chance, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I disagree. A few weeks ago I did a 1000 mile road trip which included about 150 miles on the track. This coming weekend, I will be doing something similar. Around 600 miles cruising and another 150 miles on the track. My car also has coilovers and still rides great. It drives me crazy when people say coilovers make a car ride bad cause thats not the case. Cheap coilovers make a car ride bad. If people actually spent the money on good ones, they actually ride good.
I should have qualified my statement by acknowledging that what constitutes a "great ride" or a "bad ride" is highly subjective. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. No way in the world would my wife ride 1000 miles in my car, even if there was room for her suitcase.
