Hmm, might be a more sensible tow vehicle...if Ford QC avoids their dismal recalls lately.

"The next F-150 Lightning will use an extended-range electric drivetrain that uses a gasoline-burning engine as a generator. Ram is adopting this solution; Scout is, too. Ford estimates that the next Lightning will offer over 700 miles of driving range, compared to about 350 for the current truck equipped with the Extended-Range battery. The model will be capable of hitting 60 mph from a stop in fewer than five seconds, and it will retain the ability to power tools and toys off the grid. The next-gen F-150 Lightning will be built in Detroit."

It’s about time. I always said I’d start buying into the ev concept when manufacturers started to build badass hybrids in lieu of all electric evs. I much prefer the idea of self contained charging as opposed to being tied to a very spare and time consuming charging network.

I hope i never have to buy an EV, but this is the better option - all electric with a Kubota or CAT diesel generator W/ 30 gal. tank @15-20 hr. runtime. At that point the battery would just be backup and for sneaking up on deer in the woods.

It's always range anxiety, over and over, that drives people away. We really can't save the earth with just EV autos, other industries still run to pollute. So the best solution is for the gas motor to be an 'extender' of the electric drive unit, and charges it while driving. The gas extender is only used when needed, monitoring the EV unit along the way. Go to a standard gas station when need to refuel that engine and off you go, huge range possible.

that’s what i’ve always said - count me in when they get it like a solar calculator- no charging, it just works

One of these days, if Nissan stays afloat, the Z and GT-R will be hybrid powered, Porsche has gone ahead in this direction, killing pure EV power. No so much for range but performance capability. If you look at the Goodwood FOS plenty of very fast hybrids run the hill climb. we're getting there!

i’ll go all e + generator before hybrid. no logic in having both. pick one. gas only is my first choice

I find talk about numbers of recalls interesting. On one hand, people beat up the manufacturers for having more recalls. On the other they beat up manufacturers for problems they never fix.

I don’t consider numbers of recalls to reflect quality. I consider it a reflection of humility and determination to make customers whole.

Specifically in Ford’s case, they took a lifelong Ford owner, me, and ran me off like a rabid dog they way they treated me with my ‘15 Mustang GT and ‘17 F150 5.0. I’ll never own another a Ford, ever, because of how they treated me, but I have to admit they may stop there from being millions like me by finally admitting mistakes and fixing them. I think it’s a good sign they are fixing their cars because even the CEO admits quality is their #1 problem, which I can absolute confirm.

On the other hand is shameless Honda and even Toyota refusing to accept error and most;y botching recalls over and over. That’s another brand I’ve owned probably 12-15 of them and the GD sticky steering debacle is so,ridiculous I’ll never buy another one.
