First Road Trip in the Z (A brief one)

Friday all my kids and their spouses traveled with me to Payson, Arizona from the Scottsdale area to visit my parents and since we didn't have enough room in my wife's Explorer I drove the Z with my oldest child. What a blast to drive on the open road. AZ highway 87 only has 7 traffic lights for the 70-mile drive and it's 4000 feet in elevation change. The Z performed flawlessly. I found that on the open road, it really likes to run at about 85-90 mph. However, when my wife and I were goofing around on an open stretch of road, I passed her at 110 and it felt like I was driving at 70 in my truck. Even my 29-year-old daughter commented on how it didn't feel nearly as fast as we were driving.

It didn't hurt that we got to share our love of progressive metal music on the drive up and back. My new measurement is about six Dream Theater songs per trip each way.

Even at these speeds, I managed to get up to 24 mpg on the drive home. Granted it's mostly downhill with two mountain passes to cross. The car handled great through the curves equally as well as on the straightaways. I was able to go 70 miles in an hour. What fun!

I have yet to take mine in the 87, but I look forward to when I'll have time.

PS, my buddy keeps telling me about the blue Z he sees around the Scottsdale area, I just don't make my way there that often (from the West valley)

I highly recommend the drive. Those curves heading up to Payson are made for this car!

Too funny! Your friend is likely seeing my car. I haven't seen another Z on the road in the east Valley since I bought mine in any color.

I have actually found the same thing...quite different from the two 370Z's that I owned. My 2024 Performance is very comfortable cruising at 90MPH, and pushing it above 100 is likewise devoid of drama.

I'm less confident in the OEM Potenza's, so I'm less likely to push the car in the twisties...will like wait until I switch to the Michelins.

I have had mine for 2 weeks, she nw has 5700 miles on her. I have driven to Wyoming and Utah. I am averaging 27.7MPG. Tha is both highway and city. I am running 91 Octane.. When I bought the Z she had 4300 miles on her. The dealer had put 87 Pctane in her. Once that was out and I installed 91 the car came to life. and the MPG went from 24.4 to my 27.7. That 27.7 is city and highway. When i drove to Salt lake and back. Cruising at 85MPH. I got 29.1MPG. all highway except the short drive through the airport.
