It pays to shop around. Yesterday I saw two different Shell stations within 7 miles of each other. One was at $3.99 and the other $4.19.

Here in Georgia they just suspended the state gasoline tax ($0.29/gal). It seems like some stations are passing this on to customers while others aren't.

It's $3.91 in Houston. The fast increase is starting to level out. The last highest was in 2008 before the housing crash.

It's leveling out because Chinese demand collapsed due to new lockdowns.

Also, many shipments of pre-sanction Russian oil are now entering ports around the world.

Once Russian oil deliveries completely end and China comes out of lockdowns, prices should keep going up.

Yep. Despite being a national chain, or even worldwide, most stations are actually individually owned under franchise agreements, so the owners can often set their own prices (possibly within brand-set boundaries). Equally ridiculous is that a station in the back of nowhere can sometimes have cheaper prices than a big city station - despite the fact that the tanker delivery no doubt costs less for the city station.

The same happens with many supermarket chains where branches can be individually owned. Here we often get different prices and daily/weekly specials at separate branches of the same supermarket chain. They can even choose which products to stock, so one branch might have "coffee brand X" while another branch in the same chain doesn't. (At one point, due to a take-over, a local shopping mall had two branches of the same supermarket chain at opposite ends of the main hall, and sometimes even those had different prices and products!!)

Really it shouldn't be allowed and just makes thing more difficult and confusing for the customers. If it's part of a chain of branches, then they should all have the same prices, specials, and products.

Two Gas Stations Sue Their Competitor Because Its Prices Are Too Low
Imagine being so greedy that you’re willing to sue someone because they aren't as greedy as you.

Wow, $0.20-$0.26/gal price difference, and they're suing?
Don't they have Arco there? Where I live, Arco, our cheapest gas, is often $0.25/gal cheaper than the station across the street.

California Drivers Discover Easy Hack For Cheaper Gas: Head For The Border
Mexican gas prices are as much as $2 cheaper than California prices.

Unless you actually live close to the border, you're simply wasting lots of time and petrol to save a few dollars.

Not too mention the risk of being jacked for your shit in a foreign country.
But, if you lived in Chula Vista or San Diego, it'd be pretty tempting.
