Despite being a national chain, or even worldwide, most stations are actually individually owned under franchise agreements, so the owners can often set their own prices (possibly within brand-set boundaries). Equally ridiculous is that a station in the back of nowhere can sometimes have cheaper prices than a big city station - despite the fact that the tanker delivery no doubt costs less for the city station.It pays to shop around. Yesterday I saw two different Shell stations within 7 miles of each other. One was at $3.99 and the other $4.19.
