Is a crack in the windshield unwarrantable? My warranty is on it's 3rd year, so maybe bumper to bumper can cover it. I fear it will not though. Any ideas?

Be cautious with Safelite. They nicked my roof during the install and I pointed it out during the inspection prior to paying the bill.

They agreed to pay for it to be repainted, and in the R&R the body shop discovered Safelite had broken clips on both the interior and exterior A pillar trim pieces and attempted to glue them back in place with silicon.

They'll never touch my vehicles again.

Similar experiences with Safelite. Also they often use thinner cheaper non OEM glass.

sounds like going back to the dealership would be the best call, but I bet it'd be quite a bit more and probably worth it in the long run

Most dealerships farm the work out. Be sure to specify if you want genuine OEM Nissan glass. Plan for the cost to be 2-3x the below.

$475 if anyone cares, and states mobile service not available and they'll only do it in their shop.

I've had Safelite replace two windshields for me and both were OE-supplier branded glass (Fuyao).

When in doubt, ask.

Is this a joke post? I can't believe this is being discussed.

The OP has a fair question that’s what forums are for. Windshield coverage can vary by state.
It is definitely not a warranty item unless it’s a failure for the adhesion, like the Ford bronco had a recall for, or perhaps it’s a mounting problem that caused a crack due to non-flexing during temperature changes. Seen that happen as well.
But if it’s a rock etc, you’re on your own. However, when it comes to paying for it, it’s very different by state. For example, where I live windshield glass is covered under your car insurance, but subject to your deductible. Often cheaper to just pay for the glass and not have a rate increase.
In Massachusetts, for example, insurance will cover the replacement and no deductible can be charged.
Other states allow you to go against another insurance company, assuming the item fell off another vehicle and never touched the road before hitting your car. If the item, say a rock, touched the road first it is considered grounded and the other driver is not responsible.

So for this guy, who’s wondering if it’s covered under warranty that answer is no. But whether or not he has to go out of pocket, depends on his state, his insurance, and how the damage occurred. Not everyone is aware of each states requirements or policies.

Safelite overcharges for OEM glass and don't trust them. Get a reputable shop that has deal with the Zs before.
