Break-in Routine for My 2026 Sport Auto

I got my 2026 Sport Auto a couple of weeks ago. I have been trying to drive it as much as I can , hoping to get through the break-in process before the car goes into winter storage in a couple more weeks. I will likely dump the factory fluid this coming weekend , and I will have about 1,200 kilometres at that time. I won't make it to 2000 kms as per the Nissan listed break-in period. I am pretty comfortable dumping the factory fluid at 1,200 kms.

I have kept the car below 4000 rpms for the most part during the first 1,200 kms. In the last 1-2 days I have been increasing rpms at light load, 4,500 , and 5,000 rpms. This evening I touched 6000 rpms briefly. I did some higher boost acceleration in higher gears keeping the rpms under boost to 4000 or less. A bit of boost helps to seal the piston rings IMO. No heavy boost above 4000 rpms , keeping it 3k-4k only for short bursts of speed in higher gears.

I am going to swap in Mobil1 0w30 ESP formula. This will stay in the car until the car re-emerges in spring 2027 after winter storage. Fresh fluid in the car to combat any acids in the motor. I am adding a Nismo magnetic oil drain bolt on the oil pan.

I hope to dump the factory differential fluid as well, and I will run Amsoil 75w90 gear oil.

This should all be done this weekend. I will fill the tank with 94 Petro Canada or 93 Shell gasoline prior to winter storage , with one bottle of Redline fuel system cleaner and upper cylinder lubricant.

For the Sport differential, go with Amsoil or Redline 75W-85 GL5 gear oil.

Regarding the magnetic oil drain plug, check out the Dorman aluminum oil pan which includes a magnetic drain plug.

You didn't mention oil filter, but highly suggest sticking with OEM Nissan.

Think of it this way, moving to a top shelf synthetic is already a huge boost in protection, why penalize yourself the WHP by using a heavier weight gear oil than needed? (Same goes for engine oil, but you're better off arguing religion & politics online!)

I ran both my Jeeps on 75W-85 when we lived in Dallas & Houston, and both saw towing and off-road duty (Redline in one, Amsoil in the other).

End of the day though it's your call! You won't hurt it or damage anything either way.

The bags are great in the front & rear diffs in the Wrangler, rear of the Grand Cherokee, but do not fit in the Grand Cherokee's front or the Z's differential so you'll need a rubber hose/tube (clear fuel line works well) to snake up in there. I used this to get the Grand Cherokee's front differential done with the Amsoil bags:

I picked up a Nissan oil filter today, the thing is tiny, looks like a small toy. I hope they gave me the right one.

I ordered some diff fill and drain washers as they weren't in stock. I picked up some spare oil drain bolt washers to use with my Nismo magnetic drain bolt, I don't care much for the Nismo washer design that came with the drain bolt. OEM washers are good.

I ordered some diff fill and drain washers as they weren't in stock. I picked up some spare oil drain bolt washers to use with my Nismo magnetic drain bolt, I don't care much for the Nismo washer design that came with the drain bolt. OEM washers are good.

That is the incorrect filter; it's designed for non-turbo engines. The bypass pressure does need meet spec for the VR30.

The factory filters are identical in size to the F1A/B/E.

For god's sake, why they hell would they give it to me, right from the Nissan parts counter. I don't know what it is these days, but everyone I deal with screws things up majorly. Thanks for the tip I am going back with this one. I really appreciate the info !

Unfortunately it happens way too often! The parts counter jockeys are trying to go from memory rather than actually looking it up in their database. I've sent them back a few times over it...

If you can get it I would go with non ethanol fuel personally it just is better for the car. I run 93 non ethanol always it’s better than the oxygenated corn sugar they are selling. I only fill it with that stuff when non ethanol it isn’t available.

From what I read in the past the 93 shell v-power is non-ethanol in my region of Canada, but they could mess with the formula at any time and no one knows

Let’s hope they don’t because no marina around here will fuel their boats/ships with ethanol fuel. It clogs fuel filters guaranteed.
