I’m an owner of a new 2023 Z Performance with auto. Recently I’ve noticed that under light highway cruising that the Z is reluctant to go into 9th gear at highway speeds. More specifically, if I enter onto a highway and accelerate up to 110 km/hr and level off, the Z stays in 8th @ a Rpm just over 2000. This can go on for miles. If I creep up to 113km/hr then it shifts into 9th and rpm’s drop to 1700ish, and will stay in 9th gear if I ease back down to 110 km/hr. Anyone else notice this with their Z?
It seems odd that at a 110 km/hr cruising speed the Z’s auto wouldn’t recognize that it should be shifting into 9th for a more efficient highway cruise.

Mine does this too. I just use the right paddle shifter to go into 9 for better mpg.

Thanks. It’s not a big deal. Im just getting used to the Z’s quirks. think I’ll just use the paddle shifter as well.too.

My Frontier with the 9sp a/t does the same thing. Though it doesn't show what gear you are in unless you are in manual mode, seems like almost every time I pull the stick over to enter manual mode when I think I should be in 9th it is in 8th.

Why do you guys want so badly for it to be in 9th gear?

For me it is not a matter of 'want' it is just something I noticed. I get it though, higher gear while cruising at higher speeds = lower RPM's and less gas being burned.

Nissan has a lot of experience with this Jabroni (whatever) 9-speed. I'm content to just trust the computer.

I do wonder how much gas is saved by tricking the car into 9th gear every now and then rather than just letting it do its thing...;)
