I'm doing a heat exchanger upgrade in a couple weeks, thinking of adding this:

PURPLE ICE™ | Royal Purple

Anyone use this with a heat exchanger upgrade or with stock? Thoughts?

I use Redline WaterWetter in everything I own (and have for about 2 decades), and have a bottle in both the heat exchanger and engine coolant.

Redline is my preference as it's quite effective & proven, but Purple Ice claims to do the same thing.

Thanks, how much would you say is needed for both systems?

1 bottle each is fine, you don't want more than that. I used a long thin turkey baster to suck fluid out of the reservoirs to make room for the addition.

didn‘t know this was a thing - i got to get in on this for sure.

I wonder why coolant makers don’t use the technology? - sounds like a missed opportunity for the industry.

here are the ingredients per the sds. based on kracka’s experience, I’m going with the waterwetter…

waterwetter = Nonylphenol ethoxylated = surfactant - reduces water tension straight up.

brings back old memories from the farming days. added surfactants to herbicide spray tanks to prevent foaming and help the herbicides stick to the plants evenly (improves surface tension).

purple ice =
1. sodium borate (borx) - used in cooling systems & heat exchangers to coat surfaces to prevent corrosion.
2. sodium nitrate (fertilizer) - used in closed loop water systems for corrosion.
3. sodium silicate - used in water systems to coat the pipes to prevent corrosion.
I’m assuming all 3 also breaks surface tension…

Back in college we'd add a few drops of dish soap to the cooling system too, as that also broke surface tension! Ahh the good ol' days...
